Sat Antenna
I did a little search and couldnt see if anyone has put the gps antenna and their sirius/xm antenna next to it.
i put my gps antenna in the factory spot on next to the speedo, and was wondering if it would hurt to put the sirius antenna there as well, the spot is big enough and it'd be easier than running the wire btw i have a pioneer avic-d3 |

I have a D3 with both GPS & XM antennas at the OEM GPS antenna location in the dash. Both work fine for me. You could probably do better with the XM antenna somewhere else, but I find that it generally only loses the signal in parking structures and underpasses. Plus, I like that all of the satellite antennas are hidden from view.

My car does not have the metal plate under there, so i just used double sided tape to hold my sirius antenna. It is terrible. I get reception but about 3 seconds out of every 30 it is cutting out.
i think the metal plate is more important than I thought. Anybody know a part number for it? |

I'm not sure if the plate will make a difference for Sirius. I noticed that the add-on Honda XM antenna gets mounted on the upper corner of the windshield without a plate. Download the instructions for the Honda accessory XM and you can see more details on this. I would have gone this route if it didn't work for me in the dash.
I couldn't find the P/N of the plate either - it might be sold as part of the XM antenna assy. I fabricated a piece of metal to mount the antennas in the OEM location. Bought a small piece at Home Depot that had a 45 degree angle in it. It didnt' cost more than a few bucks. Needed to trim it with a dremel and drill a few holes to get it to fit. |

the plate IS part of the xm antennae assembly. and i dont think it is the plate that effects the reception. i think it is the location, the satellite ant. is supposed to have a clear view of the sky, the navigation ant. gets away with being there because it uses a different signal from different (more) satellites and also locates itself with the speed/direction of the car.
this is probobly the same reason why honda made the sattelite radio ant. location on the roof...dont you think if they could get away with it in the dash next to the navi they would have done it to save money and not drill a hole in the roof? just follow the instructions with the satellite radio and give a clear view of the sky. fun it to the trunk and under the weather stripping to the middle/front of the trunk and double stick tape the ant. to teh bottom middle of the back window. |
