I had a radio install in my old '99 EX and they did a horrible job...broke all the clips inside the dash...held the stereo in with black goop...I'll never go back..

best buy has very few quality items. and usually there prices are higher, at least around me they are...so that means tha the car audio shops are ripping you off.

I've been twice. Once was for my girl's car because I was told it was a PITA to take apart and my friend does the installs there so there was no charge (no, they weren't doing their usual "free install" promo). That was fine. Of course, it was a simple splice and connect install. No tuning, no adding amp's, nothing of that sort.

The time I went for myself was when I lived in Louisville and didn't have my own tools, so I kind of had no choice. They did a HORRIBLE job. They put the RCA's in the wrong plugs, so I spent 3 days trying to figure out wtf my subwoofer and mids were so messed up. I'm lucky I didn't blow anything. I finally figured out what happened so I pulled my deck out and fixed it myself.

I'll never go there again.

I went once, before i knew better, had them install speakers in my old car, also got dynamat at the prompting of the salesperson, paid for the speaker and dynamat install. A couple years later i was upgrading speakers, having learned how to do it myself, open up the door panels and all i see is metal. No dynamat was installed. Not only did they not perform the install they charged me for, but they took the dynamat i paid for too.

I still had the reciepts and everything, took it to the store where they did the work and was reimbursed for the cost of install and dynamat. They also informed me that they had caught the guy who did the work not installing parts and either keeping them for himself or selling them. But they didnt think about possibly informing customers who had been ripped off.

It’s called “not wanting to get sued into bankruptcy”. I know a lot of local shops that won’t do that unless you’re cool with someone there. It’s a HUGE risk to bypass the video while in motion feature on everyone’s radio. It’s seriously a lawsuit waiting to happen.

I'm happy for you that the shops in your area will do that for you, but I think you missed my point.

Notice the 2 you mentioned won't do it...know why? Higher liability. That's why. Someone gets into a wreck watching TV, they sue BB. BB has "deep pockets". Imagine how much money someone would make off them if they had a family member lose a life when a person was watching tv in a car that an employee of BB hooked up. See my point?

The local shops can do whatever they want, but when you have a HUGE company you take a HUGE risk doing things like that. I personally would never do that for anyone. I don't want to deal with the possible problems later.

And you're correct, it's not hard to bypass. That's not what I was saying though.

Go to Circuit City instead, I worked there for almost 3 years, in the TV department not car stereo. They train their installers a lot better, and there are also incentive programs for them there so a lot of the guys have been there for quite a while and really know what they are doing.

i haven't found any that dont work. the e-brake is all about a ground source. They try to make it harder by doin sequences and things like that but thats no biggie either. you just flip a switch in the same sequence as the ebrake and your good. what units dont allow that??

Like what? Getting fired after it's determined you're making too much money, and having to wait about 6 months (iirc) to re-apply for your position.

And those guys that have been there a while won't be there for long.

Story in case you don't know what I'm talking about.

You guys are talking about different types of bypass.

The older units had to simply be grounded.

Newer units (like Alpine's) require the multiple steps.

The new Pioneer units require a much trickier method. The d3 & z1 owners here know this all too well.

Not all private shops good

I had shoddy work done by two different private shops in the past. I used the logic of finding a private shop that would be more professional than a big box. If you have great recommendations from someone with a similiar car - use it. My latest install was done myself. I was scared, but this website and crutchfield are your friends. Clean and better than "professional installs". Bonus: you save money.

You talking about the Pioneer methods?

I can't recall of the top of my head. One has something to do with wiring something to the headlight or something crazy.

Check avic411.com. There's all sorts of pioneer bypasses talked about there. That's the whole purpose of the site.
