I propose we have a stickied checklist for upgrading front speakers

That's it. In the past week I think I've seen 3 of these threads and always wind up posting the same thing to help people get started.

I propose that we do something here that will be a go to for those wanting to upgrade their OEM speakers. Something simple like:
1. Do you have an aftermarket h/u

2. What is your price range

3. Are you willing to buy an amp to power them?

Not in that order, but I think you get the idea. I dunno how many of you think this would help, and if not, no loss. I just get tired (not angry, just wore out) re-typing the same thing, or copy & pasting the same thing.

Could we maybe do this? Just a thought...

Mods, in retrospect maybe I should've PM'd you? Sorry if this isn't the right format. Just something I thought should be up for consideration.

I love you! Muah! :)

Those weren't the only questions I would ask, especially not in that order.

I would make it a little more detailed and ask about willingness to go active, or stay passive, etc...

It would be a community effort.

:)

We'll use this thread to put it together. If you want to make an outline, I can do some of the parts of it, and we can split it up, then you can make the actual thread about it with all of the information we have compiled. We should get negativezero in on this one, too.

I agree. Toxis would be good help, too.

Although I think we would all come up with the same basic questions.

Here's a list from a post a few days ago...I believe you saw this already. We can use this to go by, and change the format up to clean it up, and add to it.

If so, what is it? Link? We need to know the specs.

2. You have to have some sort of crossover for your tweeters so they don't blow. Most tweeters shouldn't be played below 2.5khz, but that number varies...though is usually around that.

3. ^^ You can have the x-over (crossover) on your amp, your headunit, or wired to your tweeter. The last part (wired to your tweeter) is a PASSIVE crossover. The two previous options are known as ACTIVE. Active is when the crossover is not external. *short explanation, for full one go here*

4. What are your music tastes? Do you want loud, sq (sound quality), bass, etc?

5. ^^What do you listen to the most?

6. You'll need a decent aftermarket amplifier if you don't already have one. Otherwise you won't be doing your speakers justice.

7. For most aftermarket comp sets, 100w x 2 is fine. Those amps can be found for relatively cheap via e-bay or used (we can help you there). If you go active, less power is usually required. This is relative to your speakers, of course.

8. My tweeters are on top of the tweeter grill in the stock location. I have them aimed toward my head. I wouldn't stick them in the stock location. You hear a lot of people say that the sound reflects off the windshield, but it's still not a good choice (and something I'm going to look into when I get a chance via sound wave flow theory...not sure the waves reflect as much as they transperse, or flow with the windshield). Either way, my tweeters are being moved this weekend.

9. I have an active setup. I can control the various x-over points and dial in how my music sounds with different songs. I advise doing this.

10. Go active now so you won't have to later. As long as you've got a good h/u, that's pretty much all you need. Plus, you can actually spend less on speakers since you're able to mix and match. Doing that with components is very tricky since the passive crossover was made to go with that particular set.

11. done. gotta go to the chiropractor. hopefully others can fill in where I've left off. if you have any questions about my #'s, let me know.

good luck
Gotta go finish my 'glassin now. Be back later.

Give me some time but if someone gets me some generic FAQ style questions, I'd love to give my $.02 worth.

12. Do you plan on using Cilantro in your system?

We need to talk about LOC's in case they want to amp the fronts and keep the stock head-unit too.

I think i was one of the few who inspired you to make this thread =D

1. Do you have an aftermarket h/u?
No. Keeping it factory

2. You have to have some sort of crossover for your tweeters so they don't blow.
I have an LX... so no tweeters

3. ^^ You can have the x-over (crossover) on your amp, your headunit, or wired to your tweeter.
I dont want an amp on my front speakers

4. What are your music tastes? Do you want loud, sq (sound quality), bass, etc?
I listen to rap. I want SQ that is better than stock but i'm not looking to win competitions. I have a 10 inch sub in my trunk already using a LOC from rear speakers.

5. ^^What do you listen to the most?
Rap

6. You'll need a decent aftermarket amplifier if you don't already have one.
Do i really need it?

7. For most aftermarket comp sets, 100w x 2 is fine. Those amps can be found for relatively cheap via e-bay or used (we can help you there). If you go active, less power is usually required. This is relative to your speakers, of course.
I dont know what active or passive means
I know you already posted in the thread that i made earlier but i'll still post this incase.
