Front Speaker/Tweeter Install Guide
I just finished up my DIY for installing new front speakers and tweeters. Before you head over, I want to point out a couple of things.
1. I only tell you how to get up to the point of adding the speakers. Since each speaker brand is different in how they are installed, and since most come with an install guide, I felt this was an adequate stopping point. 2. I don't give a detailed walkthough on how to re-assemble your car. Its like when you go visit a friend for the first time - they give you a map on how to get there but not a map out. The car reassembles exactly backwards to how it was put together. If there are enough questions about reassembly, I'll add it, but for now, I'm leaving it out. 3. This is a 1st edition. I plan on changing the layup quite a bit, but hopefully the text will remain static. The only changes I hope to make are those suggested by others or to fill holes that cause others questions. On a final note, installing in below freezing weather is NOT cool! I like to have froze my buns off, quite literally! Now, on to the show, er link: Front Speaker/Tweeter Install Guide Last edited by brolewis; 11-15-2006 at 05:29 PM. |

Well, I'm already on to version 2. The link is the same. I've mainly just changed the layout and fixed typos. Also, you will now see down arrows next to the main install heading. You can click on these and minimize that set so that you can see only those points you wish to see. Also, there is a print stylesheet that removes the quick links and displays it a little better.

i just spent 3 hours installing 2 sets of Polk db650 speakers in my Sedan... only to be so dissapointed in their performance off of the stock deck that i swapped the stocks back in
. the stocks had a LOT deeper bass and just overall volume than the Polks. the Polks had a bit better highs obviously, but i guess if i wanna replace the factory speakers i'm going to prolly wanna get an amp for 'em :-/ah well, at least i know how to replace the speakers like a champ now :). honestly the rear ones i had the polks out and originals back in in about 15 minutes flat the 2nd time around. sadly i had to drill 3 holes in my passenger side door to mount the polks, not that big of deal, can reuse them if i ever do replace my stocks i guess. |

hum that's interesting, so the stock speakers are actually better than ur Polks... at least with the stock headunit that is I guess.
So is there any major different in the installation for the sedan than what brolewis posted here? (coz his is a coupe) |

the rears are SUPER easy on the sedan, as the grills pop right out, you don't have to remove the rear deck. as for the fronts, the panels seem easier to take off compared to his DIY. first thing you do is use a flat edge screwdriver intisde the grab handle and pry up the black piece that houses the auto lock/window controls, then once you've got the back edge pried up, you push it back and it's off. then disconnect the plug for it. once you do that, there's a silver screw towards the back of the arm rest, still inside the grab handle, that you unscrew. you also do the same thing w/ the inside door handle as the coupe, pry out the cover, unscrew the screw, then pop off the other plastic fastener towards the front of the handle. after that it's the same, just pull on the bottom of the panel (outer edge is easiest imo), then once you have all of the fasteners removed, gently lift the panel up and away from the door. i didn't bother disconnecting the door handle and lock wires, i just set the panel on a box (it sat upright) away from the door while i replaced the speaker. i have a feeling that with more power the polks would have sounded pretty good, but i'd read that they def lacked lower bass compared to others, but that the clarity was fantastic. honestly i didn't think they were much better than my old Infinity Reference 6.5's from my 2000 civic. i may try those in my new car too, just to see, but for now i think i'm just going to stick w/ the stocks until i find a recommendation of a killer combo of speakers to use w/ the stock head unit sans amp. the stock EX system isn't BAD (i'm sure it's pretty darn good on the Coupe), but was just hoping for a bit more clarity is all, it's plenty loud :) |

Can you tell us any info on the stock front speakers? Is there any identifying marks on them at all? I'd love to know what the wattage they are getting. I know you could crank the stereo, play a sine wave and check the volts, but that isn't really that accurate (because you don't know when it distorts). Thanks. |
