if you don't add a 4ch amp and some new components and rear speakers, all you will have is MONSTROUS bass... Your mids and highs will be soo over powered. If you want something to compliment the factory system, go for a slot-ported 8 inch w3v2-4d and wire it in parallel to get the factory sub's impedance of 2 ohm. That's what im running off the factory amp until I get over this cold so I can install my LC8 and my amps

I personally have 2 12" Alpine Type R Subs in a custom noported running 500watts each off of one of the 1000s in my trunk. =D The other 1000 is my multichannel one for the type r speakers in my doors and back. I disconnected the stock tweeters in the front. The 2 12"s provide plenty of bass and at the right notes.

Sub Advice is needed!!
I have a 07 Civic LX, and I want to put some subs in there. My brother in law gave me a new rockford fosgate Amp T1001BD for x-mas. And I want to go with a pair of 12" subs. What would be the best or what should I look for when I purchase these subs? Thanks.

I got a set of JL audio 12W3V3's in a ported box for sale for $500 pick up if you anyone is interested. I would recommend staying away from the W7 if u have an SI cause all it will do is slow your car down. This is the exact reason why I am selling my sub setup and going with something more practical.

Consider if you go with a huge speaker, you're going to have to have a very sturdy box to hold it. My box alone weighs 40lbs. The sub+box= 83 lbs. I don't necessarily agree with staying away from it just because you have an Si, but I understand your logic. Most people with an Si bought it simply to go fast in, and a heavy subwoofer would slow you down. Maybe not as noticeable as we would think, though. |

^I got the Si because I was sure as hell wasn't gonna downgrade to an EX from a prelude.
40lb box? damn that's a lot for a box. My box for my 12w6 was only 17 pounds but it might be light because it's sealed. It's a properly built box by a professional box builder too. I have all the trunk space I need/want. Mostly because of the amp rack though. |

I sure did say thanks. I prob wouldn't buy it for myself because its prob more than I was looking for, but since it was a gift, I want to use it. I want to make sure i get the right subs for the job, without spending too much money. Any Suggestions?!? Last edited by regis1266; 03-25-2007 at 03:23 PM. |

As far as sounding good...that would be up to you and what kind of music you generally listen to. I listen to everything...slightly more rock than anything else so I had planned on removing the factory sub and installing an 8w7. It was going to go into a custom enclosure with two aeroports (going thru the holes on the back deck were the 6.5 were removed. After looking at this for a bit I decided it just wouldnt be loud enuf for me...not even to mention how much of a pain in the arse the box build would have been. So a few weeks ago I purchased a new RE XXX 12 and a JBL BPX 2200.1 to power the beast. Between the speaker and the box I am looking at roughly 120lbs. When it is all said and done...battery's, amps, wires, and dynomat I guess it will prolly be closer to 150lbs. Removed the spare tire and building my amp rack in there.
To me this is a perfect setup...I love how this sub sounds and by the time its all said and done I will still have a trunk. If this slows my car down .1 seconds in a quarter mile so be it. After all it's a daily driver not a race car. |
