I purchased the avic z1 at circuit city and the amp bypass harness at crutchfield. Circuit city did the installation for free, but now the two tweeters in the dash don't work at all. So the sound quality overall sucks without them...I called crutchfield, they said circuit city f***ed up, circuit city says its impossible to have all 7 speakers running off the avic HU.
Should i have someone else wire the speakers? or was bypassing the factory amp a bad Idea? Or should i just go back to circuit city and return the whole thing??? Total NooB here, thanx in advance for the advise!! narked 2007 civic ex coupe |

Circuit City sucks ass.
Thus why any and all installation I do myself. (I have one exception; a shop is building my fiberglass enclosure since I haven't built any ported fiberglass enclosures before, only sealed.) The tweeters should be playing. The main wire should run to a crossover and then split to the tweeter and mid just like every component set ever. Take it back. MAKE them *fix* it. If they won't *fix* it, throw a fit. Get a manager, do whatever. They didn't do it right. I didn't bypass the factory amp, I just ran the remote turn on to the turn on for the factory amps. So I am still using the factory amps for power but everything else is from my D310. |

the factory amp is where the crossover is done for the tweeters. if you cut that out your tweeters wont work. i cut out the factory amp and dont use the tweeters. my system sounds good still, i have a panasonic deck using the built in amp. i'm going to a pioneer unit like yours soon, but i also am changing all the speakers to aftermarket with aftermarket amps. internal amps on decks are not great but do the job for sound(not good sound). things u could do. which i have tested. this is easy, u can do it ghetto rig, or buy a converter. using the headunits preamp outputs. ghetto rig you just get a rca cable, cut an end off take the ground/sleeve and put it to the corresponding wire on the amp input. and then take the input/positive to the corresponding wire on the amp input. this does work and it sounds good. it will keep your WHOLE factory system intact minus the headunit. u can either use some sort of splice, or you can cut the factory harness, up to u i hardwired it. . i used heatshrink to cover the soldering. i recommend this way over the amp bypass if you wanna use the stock speakers. amp bypass will utilize the internal headunit amp which usually sux.(how much better the stock amp is i dont know) yes i said at first i use the headunit amp, it's because i ripped the stock amp out to see if i could shove an aftermarket amp in the center console. i don't have good grammar or sentence structure etc. sorry. but this is a easy fix to keep the amp and your tweeters working. i can install a deck/wire this up in about 30-60mins easy now. takes about 2-5 minutes to take all the dash apart and pull the deck out. however i have done it quite a few times. (crutchfields great return policy let me try out quite a few different head units) |

I put in an eclipse 5495 double din, used the bypass harness and the radio harness and it worked fine, just didnt get any bass from the sub.
As far as flaming circuit city, i will admit there are alot of installers that are idiots, but have been installing at circuit city now for 6 years, if the tweeters didnt work i would have found out why, but i guess thats where you dont find quality work across the board. |

how are you getting tweeter or sub outputs with the amp bypass harness? headunits using the built-in amp only have FR,FL,RR,RL outputs and the ampbypass will ONLY pass on these signals to those speakers. i don't know how you are getting the tweeter/sub signals. unless your headunit is non-standard. for narked: i'd get the installer to either get Line level converters to convert the headunit built-in amp to lowlevels for the amp, or you can just put in highlevels into the amp, it'll still work just your volume will be f'ed up and get alot of noise sometimes. Or use the RCA preouts and convert to 2 wire configuration. either/or all will get you sound, amp bypass will get you sound minus the tweeter/sub. |

Audio Wire Diagram
the RADIO HARNESS is the INPUTS to the stock amp. as you can see it has standard FR,FL,RR,RL outputs. your new deck has all the needed outputs to run the stock amp also. either in HIGH level or LOWLEVEL RCAs. amp remote wire, etc. |

Anyways, I agree with what other people have said. When you bypassed the amplifier you lost the tweeters. What I'd recommend, get your hands on a Metra 70-1722 and a set of RCA cables you don't mind parting with. You'll want to connect the speaker wires off the harness to the wires of the RCAs, effectively turning each speaker into one RCA plug. Then you'll plug those into the back of your AVIC, and then everything will work (assuming you reverse the amp bypass). That's what I did in my 07 Si. If you need further help or direction on that, shoot me a PM.
