Install Har Kar Drive & Play on 2006 Civic

Hello,

New to 8thcivic, and this is my first Civic. I thought I'd give a few details on an install I made today but also need to ask for advice too. This is part one, I'll try and follow with a few photos.

2006 Honda Civic Sedan

First challenge, where to put the controller? I fabricated a thin 2 1/2' x3' metal plate to mount on center console below th shifter housing. I simple sized the thin plate to fit over the right 2/3rds of the change holder sliding the plate first under a seam on shifter, then backwards under another seam in the cupholder for a very tight fit. I removed, wire brushed the metal to match the decor and made one coat of poly to avoid future rusting. I drilled and mounted the control knob running wires through a small hole I drilled in top left corner of change holder (out of sight).

Second challenge, will the cables and attachment from the Drive & Play simply plug into the Civic CD/Radio? No, it can't be that easy. Drive & Play comes with 3-wire power strip and its audio cable are simply a jack on one end and two RCA jacks on the other. The radio and CD changer had a extra plug on the back for add-on but you need to buy the harness. Honda part: Bus Harness 2 Port # 08A31-OF1-000 ($16).

I tore into the dashboard using photos from this site's DIY project: Aftermarket Radio Install. I also used the poor quality black & white drawings from Honda site for for IPod Music Link and addinga CD Changer. All panels removed with a gentle tug.

I also removed the glove box with two phillips screws near the hinges. I mounted the control unit on steal pipe with ties toward right side of glove box. Not al ot of room as the glove box is a tight fight so after all connections, rotate the control unit above/behind the pipe. You can see the location is same on Music Link controll box install drawing.

Wiring
Another person provided the 17 pin descriptions. The bus harness has similiar 17 pin connection. I ID'd the power, ground and ACC for the Drive & Play power cable. For audio, I cut off the RCA cables and spliced the two wired for left and right channels. I ID'd the appropriate channel, cut the wire off the connector and twist/crimped the 7 connections. I wrapped in top quality electrical tape. (still have

Radio Harness
+12V DC Constant White -- Match with red wire Drive & Play harness
Switchedd Accessory Violet -- Match with yellow wire
Ground Black -- Match with Black
Left Front + Light Green (Red RCA Jack)
Left Front - Pink
Right Front + Gray (White RCA Jack_
Right Front - Brown

After wiring and reassemble, I re-applied power from the battery and...

Third Challenge. I have a dead radio unit...no power, no lights. Any Ideas? I again removed the dashboard panel and examined all 7 connections, pins, and wiring , but nothing.

I believe the 17-pin connector provides the power to the radio unit. I confirmed that I have a good ground on the connector and good 12 volts power to ACC ignition cable and connector. But I have zero volts on the battery 12 v (white with silver stripe) wire-- I believe this wire provide constant power from battery to keep the clock running. But with power at ACC wire/connector, Why is the radio/clock display off? Do I need to turn something on? Book says that after re-application of power I need to enter a radio theft code...but with display blank, it must be power.

I checked the #35 fuse and its OK. But curiously, my door lock switch is also inop so I suspect I have a fuse blown somewhere.

I'll hit it againg tomorrow and finish the job. Back later. Nickelbed_Home

Question: Is the power off totally, only if the ignition is off?

Wow, I just realized how old this post was, Well, If anyone else has this similar problem (No power when the car is off, Door locks not working, Interior light dont come on unless the car is on) when doing any wiring with the radio or factory amp. It is probably a blown fuse under the hood.
Its fuse number 23, Listed as Back up, 10A Low profile fuse.

If its not this, get out you Visa and go to a mechanic that knows wiring.

Outstanding! That was it. Wish I could have looked at the owners manual and found a fuse for radio that actual controls the radio...or door locks or everything else hooked into "backup" circuit.

Thanks Voice of God...

A Har Kar Drive is when you open a thread that has been dead for almost a year.
