I want an electronic trunk release on my Canadian 2006 Si. I asked the parts manager at a local dealership, and he basically said it was impossible:
"I have been working with the Parts dept. regarding your inquiry. Unfortunately none of the parts required to make this happen are available in Canada. Even if parts were available it would be quite expensive to retro fit....Well over $1000 to complete this type of repair. I have no way to supply you with any part #’s as our parts directory does not have a listing…With our keyless entry system all power is directed through a device called a multi-plex unit which on its own is about $500. Add in wiring, a power trunk latch actuator with new remotes and you’ll find the price climbing rapidly…Sorry" Does anyone know what this "Multi-plex Unit" business is? I looked at hondapartsdeals.com and collegehillshonda.com, and the only remotely relevant part I could find that comes close to that price is the trunk lid itself, which still retails for less than US$350, and which I wouldn't need in any case. ![]() Judging by the list above, the only "expensive" part(s) I'd need is/are 74851-SNR-C01 and 74851-SNR-C02 (and they only retail for about US$65 each -- I don't know what the difference between the two is -- both are listed as #11 in the drawing below). ![]() Has anyone else done this retrofit successfully? There have been other threads on this topic, but in the end, they never seemed to go anywhere, e.g., Remote Trunk release for LX sedan Any advice or further information is welcome...except, yes, I know I can probably get an aftermarket trunk-popper at little cost...I just want this on my key. |

Maybe I should have been clearer. Here's part of my earlier post, edited:

what about if someone would design a unit that would
1) intercept the signal that would normally open your passenger door when you double-press the "open" button, and just have both doors unlock at the same time. You'd lose the "2-stage unlock" function. 2) The trigger that would NORMALLY unlock the passenger door, route that to an aftermarket trunk actuator? Odd stuff might happen when people use the inside door unlock controls though.. some diodes would be needed here and there surely.

I'm a little confused... I thought all our SI's came with a remote trunk release? My key has a trunk release button and voila!
Is your car a coupe or a sedan? You know what would be cool is a push button from the inside of the car! Last edited by drexp2000; 06-19-2007 at 11:17 AM. |

Anyways, no factory alarms on CDM Civics. It's an optional accessory. |
