i just got an alpine type E sub installed like 2 weeks ago and it basically got fried so now cant really do anything about it cause i got it as a gift and no receipt so now im thinking about upgrading to the type R this really sucks i miss my bass

well i was driving to lunch today and i was not playing my music that load and all of a sudden the sub was making a weird noise so i pulled over and looked at it and it was smoking i think it was because the amp i have might have over powered the sub

If he had been running a JL sub, doesn't matter (since he's running the E doubt he's running anything big so a W7 could have handled it but you get my point hopefully). Sounds like he was sending a clipped signal to the sub, causing distortion and working trying to overwork the sub. Clipping = bye bye sub(s).

To original poster: What amp are you using? Where's your gain set at?

Proper gain setting > everything else

i'm on my 6th laptop from costco...they have a 6 month no questions asked computer return policy...i just keep them for 4 or 5 months and take them back....its fun...i'm on a xps m1210 now and i don't think i'll be able to get rid of it lol...its the best one i've ever had

i have an Alpine V-Power 600W class D bridgeable mono MOSFET amplifier now maybe u guys can help me with the amp settings like that gain settings cause i dont know wat is best for the sub so i dont blow it again cause i just got the new one and put it in 2day
