I need some help with the placement of my Passport X50 Hardwire Display Unit. I know this is possible, but I’m just not sure how to do it, and if someone could help me out I’d be glad to make a step by step DIY for this process with plenty of pictures. I need to mount this display (mainly for the mute button) in a good place so I don’t have to reach up to the radar detector to mute it. The small rectangle next to the side mirror controls.
I have no problems taking anything apart in my car and I plan on taking the dash apart to do this somehow. Cliffs: How do I mount the X50 display in the top position shown where the gray plastic rectangle is? Pictures: 1.)This is the position I am talking about. ![]() 2.)This is pictures of the display unit. ![]() Zoomed Out Version: ![]() Thanks for the help. |

Lostday.. Love your car (same color/model as mine).
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that the only place you can put the switch for the fog light install? As long as you don't want fogs then I say go for it. My cobra radar doesn't have that sweet mute setup, but if it did I would probably mount it in that small square compartment just below the place you're lookin at now. A strong double-sided adhesive would secure it to the roof of that compartment. I mounted my amp's base control there with the velcro that came with my radar detector back when I had my 01 civic. G'luck and enjoy the passport, I've always wanted one Last edited by txdude; 01-02-2007 at 09:48 AM. |

Yeah man, I won't be getting foglights so I'm not too worried about that one. I'm just unsure of how to actually get it to get in that spot with plastic still around it. I could do the little pocket below it but I still don't understand how I would do that? Make a hole in the back on the pocket and try to run the wire through it somehow? I'm unsure of how to actually get it in that spot.

You would just have to pop out that dash portion and then make a hole on the top rear so it's not noticeable. It's very easy and like I said, the velcro from my radar worked perfect for me.
But since you don't want fogs I think your original plan will look sweet. C'mon, anyone out there with some ideas on how to do this? Hmm.. let me try.. all you have to do is pop off that plastic thingy, cut to perfect size your mute button & mount it in there. Easier said then done, I would try calling a reputable car audio/customization place? |
