Has anyone tried using the OEM navi dash piece for an aftermarket NAV?

Ok here's my beef. Prereq=I am a Roadshop Installer at a Circuit City.

I have an 07 Si Sedan. I want a nav, but not the OEM one. I have a few friends at Honda that give me some good mod ideas from time to time. My friend in parts suggests I get the OEM navi dash piece and try and put a double-din Nav head unit in. I already mounted and installed an AVICD1 but removed it because the aftermarket dash kits always have a small but annoying gap near the top left corner because of a line that starts near the tach cluster and continues across that panel. That little gap is enough to stop me from doing an aftermarket stereo. So now I'm really considering the option of the factory dash piece. Has anyone tried this with an aftermarket head unit? Any ideas?

I have a Kenwood DDX7017 in my car, i got a 06 coupe NO NAVI.

I bought the peice from honda, just the dash nothing else, was around 40 bucks.

After i too my dash off and swaped it out, i realized i did not have any clips or anything to hold. so i built my own frame, was not to hard just some thinking involved.

it doesnt look to bad either, here is a pic.

I have the Clarion MAX675VD which offers an add on Navi system.
I drive an LX coupe so I used the factory Nav dash panel and the Radio brackets, along with the antenna adapter. Got the parts from this thread.

This is a great DIY complete with part Numbers.

What about the controls on the steering wheel? Is there a way to hook that up?

Get the pioneer avic-z1. Its bigger than the D1 and i hear its a perfect fit for the OEM honda panel. And you can buy something to let you keep your steering wheel controls. If you search for it you find people on this forum that did it and what part it is for the steering wheel control

I don't have steering wheel controls so I never looked into it.
Here's a link to the Clarion site maybe you can find an answer there.

Ive searched around and I cant find a OEM navi dash piece. Is it the same as the aftermarket radio dash kit? What about the wiring harness? Where did you get those?

Circuit City can order the wiring harness (Metra 70-1722), but I got mine from Fry's Electronics because they had it in stock. As far as the dash piece, Metra also makes on but I'm not a fan of it. The OEM dash panel you can get at a Honda dealer. You'll also need an antenna adapter, Metra part 40HD10.

77250-SNA-A01ZA (Gray or "gunmetal" or whatever it's called -- for dark interiors) or 77250-SNA-A01ZB (Tan -- for light interiors). Try collegehillshonda.com or hondapartsdeals.com -- or a dealership.
