Before I order Alpine Type R components
had a few questions...
Looking at the 5.25" Type R component set for my 2door SI. Crutchfield wants $250, going with onlinecarstereo for only $125. 1. On crutchfield, they say under detailed instructions that the woofer will install in the stock location but the tweeters must be custom installed. Is this true? 2. Also, crutchfield says that the 6.5" version of these speakers will not fit. Is this accurate? I believe under sonic electronix's guide, they will. I put components in my honda prelude, the 6.5" woofers were really over 6.5" and didn't fit. Trimming and custom fitting things sucks, but I want to go as large as possible as more cone area always is better. 3. Do any of you recommend anything else to be ordered with this? I am installing myself. I am going to pick up the dynamat door speaker deadening kit. Will I need baffles, trim rings, or special wiring plugs for the factory harnesses. It would be nice to be able to just clip them in and out. If anyone can help me out with these things it would be great! Can't wait to actually hear my ipod with the windows down. Will probably push it with this kicker 4channel amp. Kicker 08ZX200.4 4 Channel Amplifiers - Car Amplifiers at Onlinecarstereo.com Thanks! |

1) YES, but not by much youll just need to butcher the stock mount trim piece thing, simple drilling of the grille, and should you revert to stock, said piece is cheap as hell, so no real loss
2) 6.5s will fit, my Focal KP mids fit in the door just fine, I dont know if the installer did much custom work but its doubtful that its much, but its in there just fine, probably as much work as it would be to get a spacer on a 5.25 3) youll need special plugs if you want it to be simple plug and play. . . a baffle is optional, I didnt have any with mine and theyre just fine, Honda did a good job water sealing the door as it is. . . no trim rings that I can think of, maybe a spacer, as I think Type-R baskets are on the wide side of things, other than that you just dynamat the area, drill the speaker into that and youre good to go. . . If you want them loud youre going to want more power than that thingll give you, sometihng like 150-200, or you can drive them active with a 4-channel with the proper crossovers, or a separate crossover of your own |

1) Thats how I installed mine 2) 6.5 Will fit have them in my fronts, there is a DIY article on hear to help, just need to remove the stock speaker adapter, speakers will need to be in a certain position on the spacer so the magnet will clear. But it can be done with the spacers given with the speakers, but I didnt want to drill new holes. 3) Since you are looking at amping the speakers I would suggest running new speaker wire, I didnt do anything special for the door didnt need adapters since I ran all new 14g wire, as for sound quality... I find they sound great, Everyone that has been in my car just say "Wow, your highs sound so clear and crisp" For the amp I suggest getting a bigger amp, 50x4 isnt that much. Most aftermarket decks push that much on there own. And since its 50X4 at @ 2ohms rms, 4 ohms will be less since alpine type r components are rated at 4 ohms. I currently have a pdx5 alpine, which is rated at 75wx4 rms @ 4ohms, but the card that came with it has it rated for 106w per channel and sounds great. I would suggest anything 70wx4 @4 ohms and up. Alpine under rates their pdx models so if I were to get a new amp I would get the pdx400 which is rated at 100wx4 @4 ohms but it actually puts out 120+watts per channel. Thats just my opinion |

1) As a actual car audio installer I can tell you that you dont have to modify your stock tweeter mounts at all. I have the type-r components in my civic and all I did was epoxy them into the existing mount.
2)6.5s are what I have and they fit fine. You will need a spacer (which all aftermarket speakers would need) to allow you fit the magnets. They actually sell the plastic ones for our cars at some stereo shops that way you dont have to make them. If you have dynamat I would suggest dynamating the spacers to the door panel to stiffen them up. You can run new speaker wire if you want, but i think in your case where you arent going overboard with power, you would be fine using the factory wiring. |

I have the same type-r components(6.5) in my coupe,i cut the stock speakers out of the factory speaker baskets, there is a d.i.y. somewhere here.
I cut the factory tweeter covers to flush mount the alpine tweets, that way i could angle the tweet more towards me instead of the sound bouncing off the windsheild. Im running the kicker zx650.4 and they sound awsome, prolly a lil overkill but oh well...lol I would look at the same amp as mine or you could prolly use the zx350.4 and be fine. Good luck
