D.I.Y. : Tweeter install in factory Location (w/ pics)

I did not see any threads for this so i thought i would post my idea w/ pics (sorry about some of the pic quality, i had some glare probs) anyways i wanted to install some upgraded tweets but wanted to keep the stock tweeter look w/ stock tweeter grill. (dont know if it matters but, fyi i am doing this to my 07 si)

to begin you need to take out your stock tweeters which are attached to the stock grills. webby's post on front speakers ( http://www.8thcivic.com/DIY/speaker-...l.html#tweeter )will describe this in detail along with some tips for wiring your tweets.

front view of stock tweeters attached to stock grills:

back view of stock tweeters attached to stock grills:

close up of stock tweeter attached to stock grill:

I am using JL .075" tweeters, shown here:

My idea was to use the stock mounting procedures to attach my JL tweeters to the factory grills. So i first removed the stock tweeters from the stock grills, they are held in by three tabs around the white tweeter mounting ring (see in pic below). next i dissassembled the stock tweeter so i could use the white mounting ring to attach my new tweeters to the factory grill. NOTE! i couldn't get the white mounting ring off of the factory tweeter with out sacrificing the stock tweeters.

here is a pic of the white mounting ring off of the stock tweeter beside one of my JL tweeters:

Next i fit the JL tweeters into the white mounting rings (took some persuasion w/ my dremel):

I then snapped the JL tweeters w/ the white mounting rings on them into the stock grills:

after that you simply pop the whole "assembly" (new tweeters attached to the stock grills) back into place. (no pics cause it looks stock, just as i planned :) ) good fit and great sound!

any questions or comments welcomed

i wanna do this mod for my sedan but i'm just not sure if it will make a big difference because i'm using the stock deck.it probably works better if you have an equalizer....btw what is the mounting depth?

clean install. nice job.

for those of you stereo fanatics, is it better to have the tweeters
on the door closer to the mid-range woofer or does it not matter?
(ie: is the stock location adequate?)

i installed the JL tweeters along with JL speakers in the doors, all hooked up to the factory head unit. it sounds pretty good, def. better than the factory speakers. i am installing an /////ALPINE double din reciever and the JL 300/4 four channel amp for my front and rear speakers (not gonna use internal amp on /////ALPINE head unit) i had this setup in my last car (02 accord coupe) along with the JL 1000/1 pushing my 13.5"W7. all sounded real nice. just doin everything in stages (have everything i need, just waiting on the trim piece for the civics w/ nav.) so for now just rollin w/ front speakers and tweeters hooked up to factory head unit. i would say it is worth it.

it is better to have the tweets mounted in the door closer to the mids, but i wanted my system to appear fairly stock, so didnt want to have the tweeters mounted in the door panel.

Nice and neat DIY. I'm thinking of doing the same - but with Focal tweeters.

Just in case someone does this and searches for a DIY...

Here is what I did and no pics....

1. Get flat tip screwdriver and pry the grille off.
2. Disconnect Tweeter from factory clip
3. Remove tweeter from housing/grille.
4. Using hot glue gun, glue new tweeter to grille/housing.
5. Solder new wires that will reach X-over and simply drop down...they come out by kickpanel area on both sides.

No clothes hanger...etc.
Very simple

No pics needed

Yea I didnt need a close hanger either you can manuever your hand etc inside there,

Although I dislike the stock tweeter location.
