My Custom Sub Enclosure(Spare Tire Well) LOTS-O-PICS
here are some pics of the prep work:
Started off with the blue painters tape, then added the foil ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Then I had to make a backing to give it the form. I used a piece of wood and screwed it into the trunk. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sorry I dont have any pics of the fiberglassing process but my wife had the camera in another state This is the mold after completing the fiberglass. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Then i had to trim away the extra glass and form the MDF and add in the mount for the sub because im doing a flush mount: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Then the test fit before sealing: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Now its time to seal it up and install the terminal. This is not the method I used, I wound up pealing away the glue and using more fiberglass to seal in the mdf. ![]() ![]() ![]() here is the box after i fiberglassed the top ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Finished the sub box now I need 2 amps and a cap and I can finish the amp rack. ![]() ![]() UPDATE: New Sub and the JLw3 is awesome blows my diamond D6 outta the water ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I will constantly update this thread as I make progress. The next step is a little more fiberglass in a week spot and then carpet. After that I can begin to work on the amps, but first I need to purchase another amp. I have to remove the mdf panel and scrap all the glue. I am going to reenforce it and seal it with fiberglass the glue/sealent is not going to be strong enough. So I will take pics of that process. There is no bracing between the mold and he mdf, I'm assuming that's what you mean.
And I'm not sure what the Micheal j fox things is about I don't get it. |

look ok man, but if i can make a suggestion if you ever plan to redo the enclosure~ try going to a fabric shop and buying a fleece type of material lay that in and than resin it with like three coats, you coulld even precut your MDF before hand to fit in the opening and resin that as well so it all pops out at once. But i give you props for trying it with the fiber man that stuff is a pain to work with!!

yeah lay the fleece in than glass the fleece with just the resin you can also wrap the mdf with the fleece and staple it to the back of the mdf but where the sub goes just glass right up to the edge of the circle so you can cut it out easier later! because when you put the sub it will screw right through the glass>
it gets complicated but practice makes perfect but make sure the fleece is saturated and the batch of resin isnt too HOT go with a batch that will harden in a half hour! the longer it takes to harden the stronger it will be, so do that about two to three times you can also at the tiger hair mat to give it even more strength as well just buy laying it in and glassing that after the second coat of resin> good luck man |
