Euro update?

Is there a way to update the maps to europe? I'm taking a 06 civic with nav over and was hoping the nav would be able to be used over there. Any information would be appreciated.

From what I've seen, it won't work. The Euro Civic Navi discs and the North American Navis aren't compatible. Sorry.

Now that's a bummer. Why in the world wouldn't it be the same underlying programming and just differnent maps? If true, it doesn't make sense to me!

I saw where someone asked about obtaining a copy of it and obviously that's illegal and they'll be banned from the site but I wonder if you have 2 vehicles with the same OEM navi, is it possible to even use a copy? I mean, it's just a regular DVD right? Or is it encrypted in some way that you can't copy it? If I had 2 Si's or an Si and a TSX/Accord both with navi, could I make a copy of the disc and use it in both vehicles?

This DVD will only work in the Civic and CR-V. I believe it MAY work in the Acura CSX (The Civic's Canadian Sister). The DVD contains more than 7GB of info, so you'd have to copy the disc using dual-layer media.

Copying it for purposes of profit would be illegal, yes. You could theoretically copy it a couple of times for yourself and then sell the original on eBay or 8thCivic.

Hmmmm, interesting to know. Thanks!

(fyi, I won't be doing any buying/copying of the disc since my area isn't updated anyway)

So do most people just spend the $180 or whatever it is each year for a new disc, or just obtain a burned copy? I need a new one bad.

Right now, buying the disc for nearly $200 is about the only option. You might be able to find a copy on eBay from time to time. They usually go for about $90-$100. Just be sure to get the most updated version, 6.62A.

I just purchased and installed the 6.62A version. It was the first update that actually seemed worth it to me. Although there were no POI or street updates listed for Kentucky, I actually found a newly constructed road near my mother-in-law on the DVD. I’m hopeful to find more small updates like that as I use the new disc. Two more things I can’t get enough of:
One-way streets are now indicated with arrows on the 1/20 mile scale (Icon Options - "Other icons") This is a huge help when driving in certain areas downtown where I'm not familiar.
Auto Daylight Savings Time is now updated for the new March/November schedule. No more pesky resetting of the clock twice a year.

I definitely think anyone with Navi should think about getting this upgraded disc. If you’re hesitant due to cost, check out eBay. Chances are you can find a 6.62A disc for cheaper than you can at Alpine.
