Exclamation Got the updated Dvd (ver 6.55)

Hi guys i got the updated Navi for my civic sedan. ( Ver 6.55 ) I have noticed quite a lot of improvement.

Some noted are

The Timer and display off tabs have changed. The Navi is much faster to calculate the roads and streets. Noticed some Gas stations in NJ have been updated. Voice commands are also an upgrade. THe biggest change was when travelling by a street in PA which the old version said unverified road, this one had it named.

One downfall i noticed, the voice commands pronounce fewer streets by the name as compared to the previous one. Dont know why...?? But i wish, they had not changed that...!!!

Still exploring it. Will update u guys as i get to know it better.

Cheers

Could this be a setting that was changed to default when you switched DVDs? The rate and accuracy at which the Navi says street names can be changed in the Settings menu. Give that a shot.

Thanks for the update.

How much do the updated discs cost? And do they change the audio screen or any other stuff like more color schemes?

Clinton, check the post right above yours. They are roughly $190 shipped. There are reportedly minor changes to some of the navigation buttons and/or menus, but no changes to any other component of the system.

Im not impressed with the OEM navi unit in my 06 4 door ex. I waited till I could get one with the nav and now I wish I had gone with an aftermarket unit. It is very limited as to function versus the nav units from other manufactures or compaired to the aftermarket ones. Especially when you have to shell out $185 every so often to upgrade the maps. I thought it would do sooo much more than it does... I have an account with Sirius sat. radio and I can not run that thru the stock nav unit. they do not make a patch cord that will connect the Sirius reciever to the XM ready nav unit. So now I have to keep my Sirius sat. box attached to my windshield... bummer!!! It was dissapointing in the sound quality too. A claimed 160 watts (320 for the 2 door ) is not enough!!! I also thought it would keep track of the cars parameters like distance to empty, instant MPG, and the other variables.
If I had to do it over now I would save my money and get an after market system. Better sound, more power, more features...

Can anyone tell me what kind of PC card the nav unit takes? I looked thru the owners man. and all it said was to use a compact flash card. I went and picked up a 512 mb compact flash card and it is too small??!!? Does it need an adapter or did I get the wrong card?!?!!?! HELP!!!

Edited: You can buy a PCMCIA adapter card and use SD or CF cards for storage.

As Camerson said, you do need the adaptor. I got one for a compact flash card from Frey's for right at $10. I had the same problem as you when I first bought mine EX Nav. I didn't understand the technology and I managed to drop the compact flash card down into the unit.

I was able to fish it out with a thin straight bladed screw driver and a small piece of double sided tape. As far as I'm concerned, I was darned lucky. The one thing that I think Cameron might be in error on is his statement that you can use any storage card you want, given the proper adaptor. My owners manual says the system is compatible with compact flash and SD memory cards. I'm not sure it'll work with anything else since it only specifies those two formats. Anyone else know for sure?

FWIW, I'm using a 2gb compact flash card and I've got it loaded with a bunch of audio books. I like listening to them when I'm on a road trip. I've got the equivelant of 27 CD's on that card. Aint technology amazing!

Good luck,
Steve R.

It sure does. Take a look through the Navigation manual for more detailed information. It's a valuable resource.

Anyways....If I got my Si in June, would there be an update? The website says its a blue disc now and my car is not here to see.

Uh, no they're not! I've had a Serius radio since March of 2006 and it's about 4"x3". The current models are maybe 4"x2". I'd hardly call them "huge!"

The newest version is 6.55 for 2006/7 Civic (2007 Update)

When you're near your car again, just pop out the DVD and see if it's the newest one.

Question Conspiracy Theory?

Do the Accord, Odessey, Pilot, and Ridgeline have an actual higher end Navi unit than the CRV and Civic? ...or is the only difference the DVD software?

Would the ver 4.55 Accord DVD work in a Civic? (this software has a live traffic overlay)

The reason I asked is that I have NavTraffic and Weather on my XM subscription, but it appears to be useless on the Civic's Navi system. Is there any upgrade that can fix this problem? ..or would I have to shell out the money for an upgraded Alpine navi system?

The head units are definitely different. I doubt a simple software upgrade would do any good. The hardware wouldn't be compatible. If you desperately need live traffic and weather updates, you'll have to look into upgrading your head unit. If you're going to do that, you might as well save some money and go aftermarket.

Looks like Alpine has released 6.56, but no indication of what (if anything) has changed, as it says no changes to map or POI data from 6.55.

It's gotta be better than the OEM version. The system works well enough for routing to local addresses but the one time I've asked it to take me to the nearest gas station it took me off the Interstate, routed me through some old subdivision and put me on a dead end road back under the Interstate I'd just come off of. There was no gas station. It looked like there had never been a gas station or any other building at the location and there was no access back onto the Interstate from that location.

"Not" exactly a confidence builder. I've read that Honda's got an updated DVD from the one I have but I've not been willing to spend the money for it yet. I probably will eventually.

FWIW!
Drive Safe,
Steve R.
