Non-Stock Tweeter Locations

I'd like to know where anyone has placed aftermarket tweets with pictures as well. Got the Pioneer 720PRS's and the tweet is a beast compared to the Boston PRO60's so it doesn't fit in the stock location.

This is as simple as you can get. I cut a hole with a hole saw (always go from the back in case it slips) the used CA glue to hold the tweeter cups in place.

Heh... just decided to look up the cost of the A pillars for the Coupe because I'm thinking along the same lines. Looks like MSRP's only $15 a side, so I'll definitely give this a shot.

As I was driving to work this morning I was trying to figure out the best place to mount my tweeters. That spot you placed yours seemed to be the best alternative. What tweeters are those by the way?

I've actually been doing the same thing myself. I have a FG so it's a little bit different.

Been doing the requisite reading on DIYMA... I'm a big dude so doing kicks just isn't going to work... too much of me in the way, so stock locations on the doors for the mids... but the tweets are another story entirely.

Came across this, which is a repost of another post from Rick at RAAM Audio.

For those not building kicks here is a simple install plan that works quite well, has been used alot in competion cars.

1) use the door locations for the midbasses, both in phase.
2) tweeters in the A pillars firing directly at each other, as wide apart as possible, both at the same exact height and about 2" above the highest point on the dash. Wire both tweeters out of phase(pos and neg wires reversed but this may have to be reconsideded depending on the midbass wiring, take your timem and try them all! Make sure to try many different aim points as well.
3) Use a dash mat, fugly but they work.

In fact, a dash mat will improve just about any install ever done, including kick panels, have one in my truck, been there for years"

There are other methods of course but these two are the easiest to implement well. The kick version is slightly off axis on purpose, the A pillar tweeter version is way off axis and very easy to get great results from.

Here's a link to the full thread, I just copied the part that was most applicable.: where to 'aim' a-pillar tweeters? - Diy Mobile Audio - The Ultimate In Sound Quality

Now based on this advise, it would seem the best position would be like so (or maybe about an inch higher):

With the rake of our windshield... and the irregular instrument pod shape, is this still effective?

significantly better. Instead of spreading across the glass I have accurate imaging. It also moved the stage forward 8 inches.

those are Morel MT-23 tweeters. Very similar to the Dyn tweeters, but not as expensive. IIRC they are about $300 for the pair.

Air bags are in the roof... not the pillars. That's just stamped there as a warning. There's been tons of guys who've had their pillars off and there's no airbags there.

the airbags extend into the pillars. My tweeters are mounted a half inch from the bottom of the airbag. While you CAN mount the tweeter over the airbag, I don't recommend this, if that bag blows, expect the tweeter to be shot across the car like a missile.

Measure twice cut once.

What's the best way to pop off the A-pillar without busting the clips?

Sounds familiar, was just making sure it's the same on the Coupe as it is on the Sedan.

I think you smak the airbag tag on the coupes, I believe sedans are a little bit lower than the mark though, but I know for sure that theyre not the same

Well, I tried installing mine last night. The panel was easy to get off. I just followed the suggestion of removing the bottom part and bending it to slide it off that clip. Worked like a charm. However, I am a jacktard and didn't get the hole drilled in the right spot apparently, and now the tweeter won't sit flush. Anyone know where I can get the replacement A-Pillar cheap? I think I'm just going to mount them in the stock tweeter covers and angle them away from the windshield. I'm just glad I've got seven levels of attenuation on the crossover for them.

collegehillshonda.com has the best price delivered.

hondapartsdeals.com charges about $5-10 more shipping, though the pillars are about $1 cheaper, iirc.

I use my aforementioned terry covered rubber mallet to remove one way clips. BTW they ARE reusable if you do it right
