Just bought the AVIC-N1

I posted this on HT, but I figured I would ask around on here also.

1. Did you install it yourself, or take it to a shop? If you did it yourself, how was the install? I have installed headunits, but I think this is a little over my head.

2. Do your steering wheel controls still work? Where did you buy the adapter from?

3. How do you like it? Any experience with other navi units?

4. Does anyone have a good DIY on how to install this unit, or any navi unit?

5. How much can I expect to be charged to get this installed at a reputable car shop?

Thanks.

Like Jester said, I hope you got the Z1 and not the N1. N1 is the 1st gen product, old and discountinued. The current N series is N3.

I got it for $600 shipped with the voice command and all the original discs and cables. I have been looking for a good navi system for a while and this seems pretty good. Anyone going to help me out and answer my questions?

You shouldn't have got it, it uses the TeleAtlas database.

MSN, Google Earth, Yahoo Maps, etc.. all use the NAVTEQ database, which blows away TeleAtlas when it comes to getting you door-to-door. TeleAtlas, expect door-to-block directions.

Ok. I don't want to be told that I should or shouldn't have gotten this, but I do want some people to help out on how to install this and any tips/tricks on what to do.

Haha. Yes sir. I know I asked if it was a bad deal, but I will be getting the upgraded discs to go to the software/maps that are on the avic n3.
