OK, I've put together a free online petetion requestion Honda to fix the buggy Navigation unit. I also mentioned a few requested enhancements and the miserable attempt at iPod integration. Sign away if you'd like:

I definitely have noticed 1 and 2. For example, if you're on preset 2 and hit the channel + immediately after the car is turned on, it ALWAYS defaults to the first preset. This is also true if you switch from say XM1 to XM2 for the first time. If you're on channel 2 on XM1 and switch to XM2 and click channel + it will go to channel 3 on XM2 regardless of what channel you were on before. However, it only does it the first time and it's fine the rest of the trip until the unit is powered off and back on.
The modes cycle is a crazy order when the steering wheel button is used. I don't remember the order but it's definitely not in the order that's listed on the screen. Very annoying since you expect the next mode on the screen to come up but end up having to cycle through out of order until you get to the one you want. I haven't really tried the other items to know how valid they are. I rarely listen to MP3's and have yet to try it off of a CD. |

Number 5 really irks me too. No reason for it not to be able to use the entire screen or maybe "scroll" the remaining text.
I'd also like to see RDS information for FM stations too. If stock Chevy radios can do it, why can't a Honda navigation unit (made by Alpine) do it? Furthermore, I'd like to add the voice command "find nearest bar" I hate it when i'm driving around looking to get sloshed and can't set my destination as the nearest bar. After that, please consider "find nearest whorehouse" and "find nearest weed dealer". |

The only problem I've had is that when you hit the back button on the steering wheel several times in a row you suddenly and permanently lose all audio, and have to cycle the radio power off then on to get it back.
I've been using a 1 gig card for quite a while with no problems. I also wish there was a current speed display on the GPS, to compare to the speedometer. My old car registered 3-5 mph high on the speedo. Nothing worth a petition for me though. |

1. There is a bug in the order of the preset stations when using the Channel + and - buttons on the steering wheel control. The presets are not stepped through in the incremental order one would assume.
Have not ever noticed this 2. There is a bug in the order of modes when using the mode button on the steering wheel control. The modes are not stepped through in the incremental order one would assume. I don't use the modes button on the steering wheel, so again never noticed 3. CD-Text display is unreliable on commercial CDs. True and annoying 4. XM Channel Scan does not work when holding down the Channel + and - buttons on the steering wheel control as it does with AM and FM radio. My number 1 gripe 5. Artist and Track information is truncated and does not scroll beyond the 1/2 way point in the screen, even though there is an entire 1/2 of the screen unused that could properly display this information. We were unsure as to whether to list this as a requested enhancement or a bug, but decided to list it as a bug because we cannot imagine any possible reason to put a 7" monitor in a car and use 1/2 the space. This is annoying too While we are discussing this situation, we would like to add the following requests for enhancements: 1. Display RDS information when in radio mode. Never noticed as I only listen to XM 2. Improve support of larger memory cards, since 1gb, 2gb, and 4gb cards are standard now, why limit the use to 512mb? I have no expirience with this Lastly, it would be impossible to do this petetion without adding a small section to point out that the thousands of us who are both Honda owners AND iPod owners cannot understand the logic behind the miserable integration attempt by all parties in the creation of the MusicLink accessory. Don't own an IPOD We eagerly await something that is, at the very least, useable in some small way, unlike the current version. My second biggest complaint is the fact that "XM Channel one four zero" and/or "XM channel One-hundred fourty" somehow translates to "1140 AM" The voice recognition sucks much ass. |

Topic #5 is an annoying design flaw and I can't say enough bad things (ALL TRUE) about the Honda MusicLink (waste of money, it's unreal how Honda knows how much it sucks and doesn't care to do anything to make the customer happy). Does anything ever come from sigining these online petitions? Aside from venting? |

I got this from a friend:
To: All Honda Parts Managers From: AHM Accessory Marketing Dept. Re: Honda Music Link Orders Suspended Parts Managers, Honda Music Link ordering will be temporarily suspended beginning October 19th, 2006. Apple recently issued a software update on their website for iTunes 7. The Honda Music Link TTS software included with the Honda Music Link base kits is not compatible with iTunes 7. Affected Part Numbers P/N Description Suspended 08A28-1H1-100 Music Link Base Kit October 19, 2006 08A31-0F1-000 Music Link Y-Adapter 08A28-1H1-101 Music Link Base Kit 08A28-1H1-800 Music Link Attachment Problem Resolution The Honda Music Link supplier is creating an updated version of the Honda Music Link TTS software that will be compatible with iTunes 7. Once it is available, AHM will update its inventory and the updated software will be available on the Honda Music Link website, http://musiclink.honda.com/. Return Offer If you have remaining stock of the Honda Music Link base kit and attachments, you may return any overage inventory of the part numbers listed above. a.. No Shipment Listing or Invoice is required for this return. b.. The handling charge applied to UPOs will not be refunded. c.. These returns will not be charged against your SRA credit. Return iN OAR Procedure 1. Use Reason Code "R", with eleven zeros for the Shipper Number. 2. Use Item Number "9999". 3. Enter "Honda Music Link" in the Remarks Section. 4. No Shipment Listing or Invoice is required for this return. After receiving the Authorized Return Documents, ship the parts freight prepaid. You will be credited return freight charges. (Optional Return Freight) OARs must be submitted by 1/16/07. (Optional Time Limit) Customer Information . If a customer with installed TTS software and iTunes 6 updates to iTunes 7, they will also need to update their TTS software when the new version becomes available. If the current TTS software is used with iTunes 7, what typically happens is that the customer will select a song, but the iPod will play back a different selection. This is caused by Apple's changes in iTunes 7; the iPod doesn't play back exactly what iTunes tells TTS is on the iPod. . If a customer with installed TTS software does not update to iTunes 7, they do not need to update their TTS software. Their Honda Music Link will function as normal. . If a customer has not installed TTS software, Honda Music Link will function as normal; DISC5 plays random albums and DISC6 plays random songs. Note: Customers do not need to install TTS software to use Honda Music Link. If you have any questions, please contact the OAR Analyst at your assigned Parts Center. Make Sure You Notify OAR & Dealer Analysts of The Return Offer |

i notice them all....
i can deal with it though....but i'd like a fix.. the ipod integration is the biggest gripe!!! with touch screen and all that good stuff...it would be nice to control the ipod from on there without a doubt....it would be the best and safest way to do so.

I just noticed these problems with my navi. I wonder if anyone else new has noticed this problem. I find it annoying. The finniest thing is I have had the car for over a year now and just noticed this. I think it was because I just started listening to XM again, only used my mp3 player before. I think I will bring up this problem on my next visit to the dealer and see what they say. I'll update when I find anything out! |

As for the card reader in the navi unit, I read somewhere that it only supports certain brands/types.
