Constant Power Going To My Headunit, Is It A Problem?

I know if I leave that sucker on it will be but if I turn it off and just leave it at the point where the headunit is displaying the date and time will it be a major draw. I know if I leave it on for like a month without me starting it it would become a problem but what about for just a few hours maybe a day. I also have the ipod plugged into the Pioneer box and its still charging also when I leave but most of the time its fully charged when its plugged in anyways and the screen just says Charged. My wiring on my pioneer 7800 has my yellow wire from my radio and the one from the harness tapped into the red wire if thats okay? Thanks.

I'll chime in.... Chris, sounds like your asking if it's ok if your aftermarket headunit displays the date/time even while the car is off.

I'm going to say that it sounds like you didn't hook it up correctly. I can only speculate about the drain on the battery. Or about your iPod charging.

I would read some of the other installation posts and figure out what you did wrong. As I know that the 12v DC connections are powered off when you turn off the car and your headunit should be off also.

Let us know what you find out.

Usually the yellow wire on a wire harness is a constant wire (memory) wire. It's what keeps your presets, preset. The red wire is the power wire. If you have the RED wire on the headunit's harness connected to the Yellow wire on the aftermarket wiring harness, you'll keep your headunit powered on at all times. I don't know, so I won't venture to say it will cause your battery to die, but it's only logical. Match the red wire on the headunit, to the red wire on the harness, and same for the yellow wires. Also, one way to check if it's wired incorrectly is if your presets don't stay the same and your cd player doesn't pick up from the last point it was before you stopped it (ie: cd starts from the beginning instead of track it was last on)

There was no yellow wire for me to plug my memory into. My harness did not have one. I do however have a mute wire that is not plugged into anything that i believe to be yellow.

Also, what about the antenna for the AM. I don't know what to plug that into.

You should have a yellow wire: This is from the 7800 installation manual

Do you mean the cd player doesn't have one, or the aftermarket wiring harness doesn't have one?

Did you get the metra 70-xxxx harness? Mine had a yellow wire on it.

Regardless, you should have two yellow wires. One on your cd player, one on your harness.
