Exclamation ** Should I install my Subs? ** (PICS INSIDE)!

Ok lets face it.... I'm a pheen when it comes to music I love to feel the thump.

I have 2 Infinity Perfect 10.1d's

Ported Q-Logic Box and a Kenwood 2 Channel Amp KAC-7252

This system bumps...its clean bass it looks nice and the subs and amp match my silver 06 Civic

Heres where i need convincing

#1 I'm guessing this weighs OVER 100 LBS is that a problem? Gonna bog down my car?

#2 Rattle...I dont really want my car damaged...trunk blown off...things cracking n such haha....

#3 I planned on having it professionally installed AMP Kit + Labor about 150$... this isnt going to mess with my warrenty or electrical throughout my car is it?

I need some convincing....Should I have my system professionally installed into my 06 Sedan??

Any major drawbacks I should know of?

Lets hear it

I dont want to f*ck up my new car

#1. Lose some weight, ie. go jogging, eat less, etc...
#2. I can't imagine 2 10's with 175 wpc is going to do any damage to your car.
#3. I always opt for professional installs so I can have someone to yell at.

$150 isn't all that bad. For the 4 hours or so it'll take you to install this right, I'd just pay someone to do it. I struggled with this issue myself, but since I was doing a complete system install, I did it myself and saved $700. Definately a pain in my back, but well worth the $$ saved.

My subwoofer/box together weigh about 98lbs. It doesn't make it that much more sluggish. Just make sure you secure it, otherwise it'll slide all over the place.

One thing to think about, is that most places have a "free switch out". Meaning, that if they install it, they'll put the original equipment back in. It's basically like paying for the install twice. That makes it $75 for this one, and $75 later. Not a bad price.

I had my subwoofer installed. I had a few other things to do during those few hours and the cost was like $75.

100 lbs. ? Is it made of concrete? It might feel like a hundred pounds, but it probably weighs 70 pound or so.

100 lbs probably isn't far off. Depending on the subs and the box.

I've never worked with CF, but I'm sure an enclosure probably isn't too practical because the bass would make the thin walls flex.
If you had the means, you could make an aluminum skeleton and cover it with CF.
That woul be light and rigid.

Are you speaking to me? I know mine is 98lbs. 43 lbs woofer, 55 lbs box. The port winds and takes about 4 turns.

His might be 100. But, i seriously doubt it. I belive those subs are about 11 lbs a peice. 100-11*2=78. I doubt that box weighs 78lbs.

I dunno what Infinity's weigh but I do recall carrying a ported, high quality custom box with 2 12" JL 12X6's in high school and that thing was a back breaker. It didn't help that it was large in addition to heavy though.

i wouldnt. it's needless weight. and the back of ur car will always sag like u have a pax in the back seat 24/7. u bought an si for speed/handling. 175lb subs/box will make all that go away.

Well my box sure feels heavy as hell it might not be 100 LBS maybe around 70 or 80 maybe lighter im a weakling but i was stuggling to carry it.

Anyway

Powerwise..... is it ok that im using the stock cd player to power these subs? Will I be getting the same quality and loudness as I would if I were to install a new headunit?? (Which I def dont have the money for)

Also...these stock speakers how hard can I push them? I think once I got about like 30 they started to get distorted....If I put the bass to -6...and let the bass run all subs what vol would be ok to reech on this stock cd player?

Power has nothing to do with it since you're amplifying the box (as you certainly should be.) I would assume the signal would be cleaner using a shielded wire from a standard RCA jack, as opposed to using a kit that taps into the speaker wiring. I don't think the OEM stereo has anything on the back.

I would guess that the box you showed us isn't matched at all for the stock stereo so you wouldn't win any sound quality competitions. Without a crossover to cut the bass to your oem speakers, you will have to probably raise the gain on the kenwood such that it sounds good when your bass setting on the stereo is around zero. that's my advice anyway. either way, that box may drown out the rest of the sound causing it to sound muddy.

my advice, stick with your stock setup or sell your box and amp for an infinity basslink.

You definately will need something more to power those subwoofers other than the headunit. They're rated at 350w rms a piece. So, you're going to need something that does about 700w rms. The headunit will probably be barely doing 10w rms, with major distortion. Also, you won't be able to set the cutoff frequency and the subs will try to play all the frequencies the music produces.

As far as stock, go by your ear. You could always get a set of bass blockers:

I took your question too literally. I forgot you mentioned getting an amp in the original post. Doh.

Man, I was like "what!" when I read that question, though. haha.
