ebay sucks to buy SLRs. they are always in a package deal that you end up getting shit you probably dont want.

tbh Josh, it's the person behind the camera which makes the most difference, then the lens, then the body..

It'd be better to spend a little less, and get some books/go on a course on how to get good images

thats why i was thinking d40x mainly nikon because my past experience with my grandmother's 35mm their lenses are superior.

is it safe to say that the 40x>rebel xti? im just scared to buy the d40x and then like next month they discontinue it.

If you don't care about the extra megapixels (and you really shouldn't) get the D40 instead...comes with the kit lens for just under $500 at Amazon. With the extra $200+ you save, you can get the SB-400 flash, an extra OEM battery, the ML-L3 remote and some extra cash to spare for an LCD screen protector.

If megapixels are for you, the Canon XTi is a far more superior deal than the D40x at around $590 at Amazon. Canon also makes great glass. Very comparable to Nikon glass (vice versa).

I also like the focus indicators on the Canons than the focus indicator on Nikons. I have a D40 myself and wouldn't trade it for anything else...love the small and light body...even with the kit lens, it weighs only about a pound!
