Hehe. i thought you was talking about the evo at first. i was about to write a whole positive review.

The lancer is a decent car. Its a regular base model for the sportier cars

Ex. Civic --> SI
Neon--->Srt-4
Lanver->Evolution

Its ok but nothing to brag about. From a 1 out of a 10 i give it a 5

The vibe I got from those cars is they are very sensible eliable cars. Decent handling and not much pickup. Good for a first car IMO.

They're ok. Interior could use a bit of work because they feel a little on the cheap side. But they're fun little cars. A good friend of mine has one. Was too tight for me in the backseat though. Grrr......

If they turn out to look like the Concept X's, there's going to be some serious competition in the spo-com area.

Cheap. If you want a car to get you around from point A to point B and that's it, then go for it. It's a great $$$ saving commuter. Other than that, unless you're getting it for invoice I wouldn't get it.

The Lancer was originally the car I was supposed to purchase.
Took it for a test drive and everything, at first I loved it and wondered, whats NOT to love about this baby?
and we went to Honda to look at the civic and I was blown away.

But anyways, I agree with the others, the interior is very bland, basic and not original IMO. I find that its the kind of interior that you could get "bored" of where as the civic's interior is so different with the two tier and digital things that you want to sit in it all day.

And for a base model and the price it's at, I find you're also getting ripped off. The ES model is a basic 120 HP with tire covers, plastic trim and very cheap interior.
I found that the price of the OZ model could buy the LX model of the civic here in Canada.

Yes, they do have the best backed guarantee in the world, but if you've ever had a salesman break it down for you, you are paying for the guarantee in the price so its not exactly "given" to you.

But with the driving experience, it gives you the "just-like-any-other-car" feel, nothing to brag about or to boast to anybody and like others have said... its a car to just get around to me.

I rented one in Bahrain back in 2001. Before they came to the states. Even over in the land of automotive indulgences and $.50 a gallon 93 octane gas the basic Lancer sucked. When I came back to the states, I was not impressed with the lack of styling or "umph" in the car. If it wasn't an EVO, I wouldn't even dare place my butt in it for a test drive.

Personally I wouldn't buy one, mitsubishi as a company is heading for bankrupcy. They only have one car that can keep up with the compitition from the top 3 asian companies, and thats the evo. The base lancer is made really cheap. the exterior needs alot of work, also the interior is about the poorest i've seen. The 120 ponies engine is no fun and is strickly to get around. Resale value sucks and I've heard reliability is not that great. I wouldn't buy it unless you want an cheap import. I can't believe i'm saying this, but buying a domestic would do u better.
If money is an issue and you want an import, i would go with kia/hyundai instead. They have come a long way and they now make preety decent cars. At lease their company is growing like crazy.
On a side note, I still can't stand how they made the new eclipses so heavy.

The Lancer is ok, but I remember a few months ago seeing a report on safety(side impact) with econo cars VS. SUVs and well the Lancer was at the bottom of the list in one of them priviate studys. Its a nice car though I looked at one about 3 years ago.

Evo's in base for poorly styled, cheap interior, somewhat unrealible, the have a lot of electrical problems. I would look at a civic or even a demostic

no the evo is definately styled nice. The interior is definately cheap compared to the civic and its not too reliable but it does come with a 5 year warranty.

Noway is the Evo poorly styled now the lancer yah maybe so... I personally think the regular Lancer is crap and would never drive one or have it for a rental car... I rather have a corolla.

I had an Evo for a while and it was very reliable... took mods in very well, no CEL's with complete exhaust piping with high-flow cat, intake, at one point a vented blow off valve.. i know sorta kidish but I liked it until I put in cams and no can have vented after that.

Still no CEL's....

350whp 370lbs of torque on the stock clutch?... I think it's pretty reliable... not to mention I beat on it everyday. I think the 03 had problems but mine was the 04 GSR with SSL.

Bottom line... Lancer sucks, not trying to put anyone down but at the same price you can buy way better cars... I would have think hard to consider which one I would want out of a regular neon and lancer if I HAD to choose.

Also... on another note.... the EVO CAME FIRST and then the lancer unlike the STI and SRT-4 were derived from there base models neon and impreza.

the lancer itself looks horrendous, and is underpowered...

now if you spend the 30 g's on the evolution 8, then you're in for a treat...there's a reason why they win so many rally crosses with the evolution...not to mention 300hp stock! If I had the money, I would so own one of these...OMG!

EDIT: Scratch that, 37000 for the top of the line Evo 8

before purchasing my civic i had a 2002 mitsubishi lancer. i loved that car to death. the styling sucked but, i changed how mine looked and made sure there were no other lancers in the area that looked like mine. the engine had 120hp 130tq and it was OK. i got a RRM non-intercooled turbo which was rated at 200hp and after that was installed the car was really really REALLY fun to drive. it handled awesome and i spanked many cars on the road and at the strip. although i loved that car, the interior sucked! fabric was cheap and so was all the plastic. after turboing the engine, the car started acting funny and broke down several times on me. then i saw the civic and fell in love. another thing that sucks about lancers is the resale/trade in value. i got only 2300 for it when i bought my civic. oh yeah the paint sucks too! here is a pic of my old baby. i do miss it...

heres another. i really think if u want it go for it. but if u want it to look nice u have a lot of work to do. i recommend the ralliart edition. 164 hp and 160tq. its as fast as a sentra se-r with a 100k mile warranty

I put in high profile cams and it couldn't handle it so I had to change it back to recirculating.. it's ok I got sick of high pitch screams everytime I shift or even let the gas off at WOT.
