article from msnbc about 10$/gallon gas

article on gas

Some pretty straightforward but interesting points. Also, they're talking about 5$/gallon gas hitting when oil reaches 200$/barrel, but there is a big lag as oil orders are taken ahead of time. Refineries are currently processing gas they bought at much lower than current prices. When the current prices hit, the price of gas will go up.

I'd guess we'll hit 4.50 this summer and 5$ easily by next summer especially with the dollar still sitting in the toilet.

the feedback between oil and the dollar is terrible. As oil goes up the US economy gets weaker which makes the dollar less valuable. rinse and repeat.

Anyway, it makes me wish there were mods that would jack my civic up to 45-50mpg. Maybe a massive weight reduction program?

Just wait until hurricane season ramps up. Anytime one of those storms even looks at the Gulf of Mexico, $5/gallon will rear its ugly head out and scream "feed me".

i've done this for awhile. Where I live in ithaca,ny there are a lot of people saying that the commuting buses are getting really full and there have been new ones added between towns.

Consumption has to come down.

I'm loving my Civic right now. I got rid of a Dodge Ram with a HEMI last October in anticipation of these gas prices. I was scared to hit the gas in that thing by the time I got rid of it. The Si sees VTEC every day and still uses far less gas.

That is a huge point that most Americans just do not understand. Our USD is like a bad check from your deadbeat uncle.

As a Nation we are in debt well above our abilty to pay it back. Most good jobs have left due to outsourcing from the Clinton/Bush era. The leading three presidential choices will continue to import more cheaps goods and export our good jobs.

We have got what we deserve.

As gas prices go up, the dollar goes down, housing market will get worse, consumer goods will cost more, and crime will increase. Govt taxes will increase. And it looks like a Democrat President will be in office soon.
I think I will stock up on another 1000rds of ammo.

Nonsense.

You can't stock up on something that will be illegal to own. Its in the best interest of humanity and to the benefit of the socialist state to not possess firearms.

Besides, once gas is under control and everyone pays into the federal oil and gas program we all pay same for cheap gas! Glory to the mother land and our premier Obama/Edwards!

Except its not just the tree huggers that don't want any drilling in ANWR. Funny thing is, the major oil companies don't want that to happen either. There are many oil/natural gas sources in Alaska that go untapped, even outside of ANWR. The major oil companies own the lease and just sit on it, so that prices stay high.

Alaska keeps pushing for these companies to start developing these untapped resources. But despite record profits, these companies refuse to re-invest their profit. Hell they can go back and get the natural gas/oil anytime they want, why do it now and drop prices?

Because they know if they open Alaska up, the gas price will go down BIG TIME.

this is what corporate America is all about. Where the rich get richer and poor get poorer. Oil companies don't care about the consumer and obviously with their record high profits they can afford to give a break to consumers but decide not too. This money junkies are the same guys who don't want alternative energy sources to succeed because they want to squeeze every penny out for their oil.

Why not research and invest the billions in profits into a new way of providing consumers with cheaper more reliable and cleaner energy source?

Holy shit that's awesome... Imagine that... we could take salt water from the oceans and use it to power our cars... crazyness... and that may even offset the "ice caps melting". Melt the *******... more saltwater for us.
