Unhappy  Top Gear not returning on June 15th

It turns out that the start date for the new TV series has changed from June 15th.

Or, if we’re being honest, maybe never was then at all.

Basically we heard a rumour and jumped the gun a bit in all the excitement.

Sorry.

The worst news is that the schedulers haven’t confirmed the new date either, so we can’t even tell you when it will be.

Basically, your guess is as good as ours’, but we’ll let you know as soon as we do.
Other bad but unconfirmed news is that there will be only 6 episodes this season (spoiler link!). This could or could not be true, we don’t know.

Lastly in the speculation department, it doesn’t look like they’ll have the switch to high definition (HD) ready for this upcoming season. At least this is the conclusion some are coming to after reading a post on a BBC blog.

Still though, can we really complain? Even limited, non-HD amounts of Top Gear is way better than anything else on TV.

There are way too many cars for them to run out. I did notice over the last few episodes they were doing some silly stunts (maybe running out of show ideas?). Also, they beat on the tester cars pretty bad, and don't accurately review them. I saw an episode where Jeremy took off from a start in 5th gear and accelerated to 150mph in a brand new Vette. And talked smack about all other Vette's before it. I'm sure Chevy wasn't happy when they got it back with a roasted clutch.

It is one of my favorite shows and I hope it comes back and stays, even with the stupid, fat American jokes they try to throw in.

Some better news: No US Top Gear.
Quote:
NBC's dubious attempt to duplicate the unique cachet of Top Gear with a Stateside spinoff has apparently come to a screeching halt. They couldn't even get it together on a cast, so the news doesn't come entirely as a surprise. The newly announced fall lineup doesn't save a seat for "Gear," though room is made in the lineup for that clunker of a retread that is Knight Rider. Seeing how much worse NBC has managed to make the campfest original Knight Rider, we're all better off without a watered-down, sucking-up, entirely neutered iteration of the original. Done before it even started -- we've all been spared by a mild outbreak of sense at a TV network. Thanks for the tip, r4m3n.

So mo more top gear in the US, or maybe no more top gear at all?

If it's not returning to the US then I'm fine with that since I will just get it through BitTorrent, but if the show totally goes away then I'll be pretty damn sad. It was a great show.

Top Gear will likely be back, but the thing is that this summer's batch of episodes hasn't been confirmed for June 15th. Besides, if they do close up Top Gear, that's fine...they're getting on in years, particularly Jeremy.

Still though, I doubt it will be cancelled, but I do think it will be delayed until fall, which I hope doesn't happen, but think it will anyway.

They could just use old cars like the episode when they each had only 10k pounds to buy an exotic, etc..

^^^ Nice Avatar. That is one trippy movie.

@Topic: I'm not sad about the cancellation of the US version of Gear. I would be VERY disappointed if they cancel the original though. I'd have to put it in my top 5 of fav. shows.

Thank you.

So Jay Leno's Top Gear got cancelled, before it even came on? I certainly hope so.

It's a show that features the automotive shenanigans of these three chaps...

Theres no rumor going about the BBC Top Gear going under. The article just states that it is likely not going to air before June 15th as previously speculated by a Top Gear insider.

The American version was never "Jay Leno's Top Gear", it is actually owned by NBC. NBC did offer Jay Leno a spot as one of the three hosts from which Jay quickly refused. You can read his article which gives you his reasoning (which I completely agree with, thanks for not selling out JAY!) located here: I hope we don't ruin Top Gear - Times Online

Jay will definitely still do the "watered down" American version. Let's not forget that Conan is getting ready to take over Jay's slot on the Tonight Show.

Jay's got more money than God, and is too used to being on TV. It's not like he's Johnny Carson who actually did retire after 40 some odd years on television.
