Chevelle Kits?

Alright so me and my dad want to get a 71 chevelle SS and fix it/restore it.. But anyone who knows about 71 Chevelles knows they are hard to come by for a decent price...(not looking for a $40,000.00 one), but this afternoon my dad told me that there is a website were you can buy authentic Chevelle Restoration Kits.. He said you can get the body kit, frame, brakes, engine, ect. in a kit and put it together your self.

Sounds iffy to me..

So does anyone know of a site like this?

Thx

I know you can get a complete body shell for a 67-69 Camaro including the floorpan from YearOne. A complete buildup of one was done on MuscleCar on Spike TV. YearOne Online Shopping

I am not sure about how many restoration parts you need, but you can get a lot of stuff to restore a Chevelle from YearOne. YearOne Online Shopping

I would ignore the "kit" you mentioned. The 71 year Chevelles are not as desireable as say the 66 and 70. If you're dad really wants a 71 then tell him to buy a decently restored one for about $15-$20K. He will save a lot of money and time in the long run.

Hope this helps.

If he were looking at a 69 or something I would completely understand wanting to build it himself since those are extremely expensive when fully restored, but a 71 isn't exactly what people are looking for.

Also, I would consider a 70 buick gsx stage 1, or an older lincoln.

Why a 71? single headlights vs 70's dual headlights is a no contest.

But as far as ur question, I never heard of a "kit" for the chevelle. Camaro is the only one I know of and that company is supposed to come out with a 65 mustang "kit" next. So I doubt you'll see a Chevelle kit anywhere.

YouTube - My 1971 Chevelle SS 454 4 Speed

This is my friends car. When he purchased it in '84 (the first time) it was a bone stock, rust free, numbers matching car.....454, M-22, 12-bolt, etc. He sold it '88. Two years ago, we were walking around a local car show and this '71 SS caught our eye. I looked in the rear window and I noticed a cig burn in the middle of the rear seat and my jaw hit the ground.....it was his old '71 SS. As luck would have it, the guy was interested in sell it. The engine and trans are no longer original. It currently has a sick 468ci making around 600RWHP on a very mild tune running 50% pump gas. He has a line on the where-abouts of the original motor and trans.....now he needs to work the guy on selling it to him. If he can get it, the car is going back to #'s matching and we will have no problem finding a new home for that 468

Kits are a ton of work....plus, you need a donor car for all the little stuff. If you put your mind to it, you can find a nice rust-free '71 non-SS and you can build a nice car.

My Dad had a 71 Chevelle when he was young, till someone stole it from the driveway.

I'd definately check out Year One, but also go to some car shows and check out the Chevelle's there, ask the owners how they where restored and where they got their parts from. Ask what some problem areas where in regards to rust and hard to find parts that you may need to get restored instead of replacing. Talking to people can teach you a lot and you can get some great advice from people.

My friend has slowly restored a 69 Camaro. He's put a lot of time into it but it's been spread out over about 8 years. Did the body work himself since his career is in auto body and slowly worked on the rest of the car afterwards. It's not a high dollar show car but it looks awesome now and he got a handfull of trophys from car shows till he stopped going.

Just saw this Year One, Yenko Clone at the NC Meet on Sat. Even though it wasn't a real Yenko, it sure looked good, and sounded better.

Sorry, I know that this isn't a Chevelle, but I found it ironic that you were asking about the Year One kit, and I had just taken pics of this car. Anyhow, Year One is a very well respected company if you and your dad decided to go that route.

When my dad was a kid he had a 71 chevelle ss 454.. He wrecked it a couple years after he got it.. Of course it wasn't in good condition, so he had always wanted to get one back and restore it and use it for a weekend car, or once-and-a-while car...

As for the kit- he was looking at these because you wouldn't have to mess around with rust and all those factors, you would have all the parts in good condition..

Anyway thanks for the info..

Kits can get pretty expensive when all is said and done. My buddy is doing a nice '66 Cobra (with a built 390, top-loader, Jag rear, etc.) and he's into the car for around $70k and he's still not done. And that does not include all the costs that you're not seeing (i.e., additional tools, etc.). For example, before I went out for a ride in the Cobra, I asked my buddy if he used a Sears torque wrench on the suspension parts.....he joked and said..."trust me, I used the Snap-On". Just start pricing everything out and you'll see that they're not cheap projects......and you'll still need a donor car or have to hit the junkyard for some parts.

Have you and/or your Dad done any major restoration projects?

Do what most people do. Get a regular Chevelle or a Malibu and make it an SS clone. For some reason Malibu's are way cheaper.
