Yeah, I'd say they basically have to take everything out and re-wire the whole car and re-run all of the heating/cooling. I can see that EASILY being 12K in damages, if not more. It's crazy but if you think about it, it makes sense.

hey! you're posted up on autoblog!

Carsumer Advocacy: eBay winner M3 update and Circuit City allegedly destroys a Civic - Autoblog

hopefully this exposure will get your story out, hope everything works out.

I had the same issue when i got my stuff installed by good guys a few years back on my mercedes. Since there was no wiring harness they had to connect the wires by splicing, and in the end, they messed up, my ac didn't work, radio didn't work, power stuff started crapping out. They told me to get it fixed and bring them the receipt and they'd reimbursed me, and I did, but they went out of business 2 weeks later!! what the crap! That was like 2000 dollars in repairs!

Well, first off, I'm sorry to hear about your car. I work in the install bay at Best Buy in Florence, SC and I have no words to say towards what he did. Not all BB and CC are bad and not all of them are good. It does help to know the person working there, but a lot of it depends on how you come across when u go in. If you go in and not be a jackass to the installer, your install prob would go fine. Even though it shouldn't, attitude does make a difference. I know at our store, a damage claim form would have been filled out, and an adjuster would come check out the car, and Best Buy's insurance would take care of the bill. The installer would get reprimanded (or fired, depending on severity of the damage and frequency of damages by that installer). Your insurance should have nothing to do with fixing your car. As long as you have proof that they did the install, they are totally responsible.

Just as a tip, watch out for a sneaky settlement. You may want to get a legal opinion on your situation, but, depending on the specific facts the refund may be viewed as a settlement. It might not because they referred you to an insurance hotline after the refund, which may be viewed as inconsistent with a settlement. But, none of this is legal advice, as I'm not your lawyer, I am not a lawyer wherever you are situated, and I don't know all the facts of the case. You should also check to see what is on the original order form / installmentt order with CC to see what procedures you may have agreed to in the contract. For example, you may have agreed to go through their insurance first and getting estimates prior to having work completed on the car. Lawyers can put lots of terms in a contract that you might not even realize are there until further inspection. Be wary.

Hit up The Consumerist: Shoppers Bite Back and send them all the info and pictures. These guys are pretty good about getting the word out.

Also, once you do that, make sure you go to Digg / All News, Videos, & Images and Digg your Consumerist article and post the Digg link here so all of us can Digg it and maybe get it on the front page.

I had a similar experience with Circuit City. The dash board and front instrument panel of my '94 Accord was severly scarred and damaged by them. I could see where they pryed at things with a screw driver and other very unprofessional mistakes.

About going to a local shop of "Professionals"... I had a buddy who did this one time and spent so much money he became pretty good friends of theirs. He ended up paying them in weed or just getting high with them while they put his stuff in.

I don't think I'd want someone to be high while they did ANYTHING to my car... but just so you know, the "pro" shops don't always act professional.

OEM Navi FTW.

Don't know if it's posted, but this story made AutoBlog

Carsumer Advocacy: Circuit City allegedly destroys a Civic - Autoblog
Quote:
But all is still not well in the land of Carsumer Advocacy (you like? we're starting a new category just for this stuff). VTECnical, a member of the 8thcivic.com forum, shocked us with a tale of $12,199.64 in damages done to his hardly driven 2007 Honda Civic Si with just 800 miles on the odo. The alleged perpetrator in this case is Circuit City store #3124 in Vernon Hills, IL, which reportedly did the damage while installing $3,190.62 worth of stereo equipment into VTECnical's car. While CC did refund the purchase price of the components, it has also cut off all communication, leaving this car owner with an estimate for over $12k in repairs. How could a stereo installation go so wrong? We're not sure and would like more pics of the damage from VTECnical to inspect for ourselves, but the images we do have of the "crime scene" and the estimates given for repair are irrefutable enough, at least for the internet. Circuit City, meanwhile, remains silent.

Update-

I spoke to the Circuit City District manager today after Circuit City's insurance company got the bill from North Shore Honda. He again told me that Circuit City can do nothing with my problem. I have to deal with the insurance company. I have been in contact with the insurance company today. They are sending a rep to review the Honda quote next week.

Thank you for your support guys. I am taking video of my car this weekend and will upload.
