Rant: Pearl White Paint sucks

I may be alone in saying it, but I think the new Honda trend towards pearlescent white paint is a trendy but unappealing move. I am not and never have been a fan of pearlescent whites, because they rarely look white! They may appear cream, off-white, beige, yellow, or tan, but they don't convey the clean crispness that a nice white like Taffeta white does, even if that is a flat color.

That said, I'm interested to see if the color is added to the Civic lineup.

I personally really want the Pearescent White to be added. I really like it and will be pissed if Honda adds it to Civic line-up for FA5. I will have to trade.

As a former PWP owner, I feel I need to chime in on this one lol.

PWP DOES look white 95% of the time! Yes, sometimes it can look more yellow-ish depending on the amount of sunlight hitting it but after a good wash and wax in the sun, it looks more white than most flat-white colors on the road. I love white cars, any white.

The WDP (White Diamond Pearl) of the TL is MUCH more 'brighter' of a white. It too looks good. Different... but good.

IMO A pearlescent white belongs on a 'Luxury' car. For Honda, it belongs on an Acura. If Honda adds this to the Civic line, I feel (again in my opinion) that it will just look funny. It'll just take some time to get used to I'm sure.

But, as far as pearl white not looking like a true white, I would have to disagree. My RSX-S looked Pearly "true" white most of the time. Very rarely did it ever look cream or yellowish.

I should have qualified my statement. Not all pearl whites are created equal. I did like the PWP on the RSX most of the time. But you can't make a rant without being a little bit over the top.

if the TL Type-S came in NON-Pearl white, i would have gotten that color...had to go for the Kinetic Blue Pearl instead!

I painted my '91 CRX Si white and put a blue pearl over it. It looked very white but the curves had a hint of blue to them. It all depends on the pearl and how much they use in the paint.

Of course, the problem with Championship White is that Honda made it for their Type R's only.

And I agree, on most cars, plain WHITE is gorgeous. There are SOME cars that look good in a pearlescent white (IS350 to name ONE), but on a lot of cars...it looks fairly terrible.

I think it all depends on wht the pearl and the base is. Caddys are way to yellow and some Lexus are too blue. Pikes Peak White on the 350Z's looks damn nice.
