Need Help!!! 2006-08 Honda Civic Si

Before I start with this thread, I am a newb when it comes to shifting. Any advice for improving would be nice!!!!

I currently just bought a new red 2008 Honda civic si coupe.

For casual driving at what rpms should i shift at? As of right now i shift at around 3000 rpms. It doesn't seem that its enough. For instance coming to a red light i want to make a right turn. The coast is clear and i take it with a car like 100ft away coming behind me on a 45mph road. I shift from 1st to 2nd and by the time i get to 3rd the car behind me has to switch to the left lane and passes me. Is this common? I mean am i shifting to slow?

How fast do i need to be shifting? For casual driving and racing? (How long should it take for me to press the clutch, shift, and then let the clutch out)

Also, every time i shift my car jerks no matter how slow i let off the clutch. If i let off the clutch too slow then its like im accelerating slow and everyone passes me. But if its too fast then the car jerks.

Is the new civic si just a jerky ride when shifting? Is it normal for it to be jerking?

And of course there's the drive by wire throttle thats really annoying. Since my revs hang, would that contribute to the jerks that i feel when shifting?

My car currently has like 500 miles on it. Will shifting improve as I brake-in the engine or is it just me?

To sum it all up. HOW DO YOU SHIFT THE NEW CIVIC SI?

If there are any videos of shifting the new civic si, please let me know.

I know these are a lot of questions but i appreciate the help.

I would say 3,000-4,000 is normal. I think I usually shifted around 4,000 when driving normally.

The "jerky" feel you refer to, do you only notice it when you first begin driving the car or is it all the time?

If this happens all the time then you simply need to practice your timing of your left and right foot. It sounds like your clutch engagement is off from your gas engagement.

Thanks Anubis and Darna!

My shifting is a lot better now and a friend of mine has been showing me the ropes. I was letting my RPMS drop to fast before giving it some gas when upshifting.
