A friend smashed her 8th gen!!!

A friend of mine got into an accident with her 8th gen coupe on tues. She hit an SUV and she totaled it. The worst part is i earned my 8th gen at 16 and her dad basically handed her the keys when she didnt even deserve it. Anyways she was aressted because there was alcohol in the car. there is 19,000 down the drain... Her friend wasnt wearing his seatbelt so he cut his arm open on the plastic of the front seatback and her other freind got a bruise from the airbag. She had a bruise on her lower abdomen from the seatbelt. Its all so sad.

I wouldn't exactly call one good report card as deserving to get a car...

I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM THE GYM AND I SAW HER AND SHEW WAS telling me about the crash and i was in shock. but she didnt dserve the car to begin wit, she was fooling around and almost hit a kid that went to our school. Im glad she made it out ok. SHe would always try to drive like Jeff Gordin with it like goin around bends too fast but now i she learned her lesson.

Kids like that won't learn they're lesson until someone gets killed, and that's the tragic truth, especially if a passenger wasn't wearing their seat belt.

You in my car, you're wearing a seatbelt.

There was a 16 year old little hoe bag at my High School. Her first car IS300, boom smashed it going around a corner. Second car she was driving her moms RX300, drunk smashed into a fence fed it up. Her parents still buy her a car WTF, a Jetta, 3 days later, she fed up the drivers side pulling out of a garage. This turn that she crashed her IS300, you can still see the skid marks and the dented road guard, we call it Ashlys Bend. I have been ot of HS for 2 years god knows what else she has crashed by now those 3 cars where in the 3 years of HS that I knew her LOL.

lol, when my brother and I turned 16, my dad gave us my mom's old car. He told us, you can have it if you can keep it running... LOL We were so happy we nearly shit ourselves, I can't even comprehend being given a brand new car!

Straight A's and showing your parents you're mature enough to handle responsibility might do it. Some people feel more comfortable getting kids a brand new car. There's no telling what's been done to a used one and in this day and age, safety is a big thing...

...it's a lot better now than when I got my first car (used 93 Corolla).

I've driven many cars before I had this one. But the Si is the first actual car that I've ever owned. It feels good to have something like this. And of course I've earned mine through hard earned cash.

I didn't get my first new car until I was 25! Was an Air Force Staff Sergeant at the time and I KNOW I earned it. Was an '85 Audi Coupe GT Quattro. Loved that car. My daughter turns 16 in September. She's getting a car from us a gift for being an excellent student and all around good kid. That and I'm tired of being the taxi service for every friggin activity she has. LOL. It's a '94 Accord LX with 140K miles. Has new struts, new brakes/calipers and new tires. Interior is flawless and engine is literally unstoppable. I expect this car to get her through college. I know she'll take care of it too. She wants to learn basic maintenance for it. I'm proud of her and she deserves it. Oh, she'll be getting a part time job to help cover insurance and gas. I know of kids getting brand new vehicles and it is beyond me how the parents think the kids will learn any life values from this. Parents generally want to provide a better life for their children but there has to be limits.

I think making kids responsible for the car teaches good things. My first car was a 10 year old hand-me-down and I would beat that thing all the time. As soon as I broke it they put me in charge of fixing it or getting a different car. I opted for the different car. My father cosigned for me but everything was in my name and all the bills got sent to me. Needless to say I took much better care of that car, and it was only $5,000. Now I got a 16,000 car and I baby that thing like crazy.

Handing kids cars all the time isn't going to help anything. Especially with that girl tikolx was talking about. She's growing up with the understanding that she can treat things however she wants and if she screws up, she can always start over new again.

Maybe I'm just bitter because my parents made me work for everything.

I don't even have a kid yet and I know what his/her first car will be: a used Corolla w/ 100k miles on it. Doesn't matter how good your grades are, you don't need a $16k car.
