Mugen SI VS Regular SI
Tested: 2008 Honda Civic Mugen Si Sedan - Short Take Road Tests - Car and Driver February 2008
18's are lighter , but the larger diameter kills the performance. All show , no go , even with a high-flow mugen catback. ![]() But wait , here is another new article that just came out that might say otherwise. Also they do note the power is increased from the exhaust...but the 18's seem to rob that power from transfering into quicker times...but finally they do note the suspension and tires did increase its g on the skidpad. This pretty much sums up the article....
"Anyone expecting extra performance will be disappointed.".... "slower than the last Si coupe we tested." "On the skidpad, overall grip was a slightly disappointing 0.88 g, lower than the coupe’s0.91 g." " We suspect most Honda tuners will think they can do a similar job for less money—and the merely rational will buy a Mitsu Evo or Subaru STI." "the sport exhaust reduces back pressure aft of the catalytic converter. This seems a lost opportunity, because tuner kids know that Mugen’s real expertise is in giving Honda engines more suds." |

Eh I'm kinda suspicious about that article. Not that I think the sedan is a million times more amazing than the coupe, I find it hard to beleive that a car with a beefed up suspension AND nicer tires would pull a lower skidpad score than a car on a weaker suspension and crappier tires. Just my opinion though.. especially considering the sedan and coupe were already very comparable to begin with.
