SI with 87 octane gas *Threads merged*

I just recently bought an 06 SI with 28K miles. The person I bought the car from didnt seem like she knew a whole lot about cars. I am curious to know, if the car was ran on 87 regular gas.....would I be able to tell mechanically wise?

I have driven the car for about 500 miles and have been using only 93. My car seems to run okay.

Say if she did run the car on 87 gas,
1)would i be able to tell now?
2)and is this screw the car later down the road?
3)could there be any premature wear?

u wouldnt physically be able to tell. maybe a loss in performance but its hard to tell. if your engine is chattering too much and if you hear knocking, you'll know for sure. but otherwise, keep putting in 93 and good oil and you'll be fine.

nope, u need to have 91 + octane if ur willin to keep your car for long time.

there is no way to tell after the fact especially if you have already been running 93 since then. As long as its not giving you any problems I would say that your car should be fine. Just keep doing what you are doing.

Like everyone says, no way to tell really, it'll be fine once you keep running the premium

shouldn't be an issue, but if you want to feel good about your gas you could go run some V-Power from Shell. It says it helps clean out engine gunk, it may or may not, but hell, if it gives you a little extra peace of mind its worth the extra $$$.

Hmm 2 dollars more and 197hp or save 2 dollars and have 140hp. Decisions, decisions.

I think 87 shoudl be uses in emergency cases. Otherwise I use 91 octane Costco gas, with the occasional Chevron and Shell to take advantage of the detergents that they offer.
