the problem we have in the states are the executives and unions both vying for the most $$$$ at the detriment of the company. Auto worker unions want lifetime guarrantees, cheap perpetual medical, high percentage of pay while on furlow. This isn't the heyday of the big three US auto makers where they can afford these benefits. People in the real world don't have this level of security with their jobs, gone are the days of holding onto the same job for 20 years then retiring. Executives are evil because they can outsource US jobs to China to save the company $$ then give themselves huge bonuses. Then when they drive the company into the ground they get these golden parachute multimillion dollar severance packages. Investors are a sick bunch too because stock prices go up when lay offs anre announced. We gotta shape up before the Chinese take over.

As long as there are cheap ba$tards out there somebody will pick up one of these POS. Everybody knew Yugo sucked but there were still (a very few)people here that bought those things. P.S. can you believe Mattel's Exec VP APOLOGIZED to its Chinese supplier about the recalls so its profits and stock prices don't suffer?!?! Screw Chinese products AND Mattel. Mattel is gutless and greedy! http://www.abcnews.go.com/Business/wireStory?id=3636583 |

Well there is 1 benefit to buying a chinese car! Once you die in an accident they car burry you in it. There is no way they will be able to separate you from all of the subprime materials and workmanship.
Until the USA Gov decides to hold CEO's accountable for the problems they have caused by outsourcing nonthing will change. This goes from manufacturing to customer service. |

The Chinese face an uphill battle like both the Japanese and Koreans had to face. After WW2, Japanese goods were highly disdained by most Americans. I can still remember people making jokes about American cars rusting and someone would quip, "Made in Japan". Over time, the Japanese proved themselves to be leaders in quality and technology.
The same goes for the Koreans. When Hyundai first came out, people shook their collective heads that the land of Kim Chee could produce a car. But over time, Hyundai has begun to show itself as a reputable and dependable car manufacturer. Kia and Daewoo have done the same. Korean products like Samsung are mainstream now and accepted by the American public. Hyundai is even talking about a luxury brand along the likes of Acura, Lexus and Infiniti. As for the Chinese, they have a long road ahead of them. Most Americans associate them with cheesy, cheaply made products that are found in profusion in most stores in North America. The truth is that the Chinese are well capable of producing high quality items with technical sophistication. For the moment, their selling point will be to be able to sell vehicles below that of Geo's, Kia's and the like. Over time, they will get better and better and move up the ladder. The Chinese are patient people and know that they will get greater and market penetration in the future. For the time being, they will concentrate in markets like India, Malaysia and third world countries. Their ties with companies like BMW, Buick and Mercedes will help them to catapult into the mainstream. I feel I can safely say that within 10 years, they will be major players in the North American market. |

Saw an interview on TV about an American General who went to China to see production. He saw his counterpart pull up in a AMC Jeep Cherokee complete with vehicle badge. The American General said, "we don't import Jeep to china how do you have one"? The Chinese guy said they are mass produced in china, every part reverse engineered and manufactured for their military. The American General said it was a beautiful reproduction, he couldn't see any difference from the one he had at home.

China excels in the ability to copy anything from AK-47s, Coach bags, Windows Vista DVDs, movies, and Jeeps with dubious legality/quality with dirt cheap labor. But it seems they lack the ingenuity to develop these items on their own except for that HD DVD format that doesn't require special expensive blue lasers like HD-DVD and BluRay.
