How long will the si be alive?
More of a concern than a question. This is for everyone, in the past, honda has made si's dating back to well, a long time lol. But at somepoint, in the middle of that period, they stopped making honda civic si's. Then a few years later, they decided to bring it back to the market. What do you guys think? Will Honda decide to do this again, or will they keep the new models coming and selling si's at local Honda dealerships?
I hope they don't decide to cancel the si again. It would be hell on earth if they did. In my opinion, the si is a great car and has been successful with making the company good money, so there would be no reason to stop making the models. But I was just wondering what your opinions are. Again, id be sent to the ER if they cancel it. Will they ever do it? Models like the Accord are legendary, and will stay in the company for decades and decades to come. (hopefully). But the si, not as legendary yet. So yeah, i just wanna hear all your opinions and discuss it I guess. Hopefully Honda will be smart enough to keep the models coming. And speaking of models, it may be kind of early, but anyone hear about an 09 si? Any news on that? |

I wouldn't mind if Honda canceled the Si for a few years because it would only make the Si's we have now much more rare and higher in value. Actually I hope they cancel it haha. Last edited by eliptik; 10-20-2007 at 05:48 AM. |

the eg hatch (5th gen) did come in an Si model, though rare. there was an Si model for the 6th gen as well, the infamous b16 engine, rite before the EP (7th gen). |

btw, honda's production line of each car/model usually lasts for about 5 years before they change it or call it quits, w/ the exception of the s2k which has been in production for nearly a decade (8 years to be exact). i doubt honda will quit the Si anytime soon. |

Yea i'm betting too that the Si will live for a long time. To be honest i thought they stopped making the Si's after 2000 or so. Seriously until i joined this forum i never know that 7th gens, EP3's, even existed lol. Talk about a bad seller.
If i am correct tho i think there was no Si for 01. |

I dont want them to cancle the Si, but i do wish they would drop the sport economy car engine and make the Si a true monster that it needs to be to keep up with all the other turbo charged high hp 4 cylinder cars out there.
Give us a damn turbo charged engine with at least 260 whp or more that can actually be tuned well with supporting mods. That would make the Si a true league of its own. |

Not everybody wants Forced Induction.
Honda of old used the Si designation for their higher end cars. Therefore, I don't really see it dying out, especially with all the house-tuned cars out there now. The "Si" sets it apart from the base model in a quick and easy fashion, just like the SRT4 and/or MazdaSpeed 3. They may skip a year, but it won't ever really die out. It's almost like "GTi", y'know?

yes true, its just my opinion, But untill you go F/I you really dont realize the true potential that Si has. The Si has always been a tuners car that people want to get more power out of. I think if Honda just put out an Si that thats already putting down alot of power then the aftermarket support would be that much better for it. Just imagine, EVO and STI owners getting owned by a Stock Si. I think it would be awesome |

When they skip a year or two, will they still be selling the civic si's at dealerships from the previous year (the year they dident skip) or will they just not be able to buy from a dealership for those years that were skipped?? |

Well, I really wouldn't know...but I'd assume there'd be no Si's other than the previous years models on the lots. Kinda like the M3, there's no 2007 M3 (I believe it's labelled a 2008).
As for F/I, it's true that I think the current 2.0L isn't going to stand up power-wise to the turbocharged cars out there now -- but I won't discount a larger displacement motor either. Maybe a 2.4L or 2.2L like the S2k... Turbos have come a long way but I'd still rather have a built motor in something like the Si.
