Do you think you could group buy cars @ dealerships?
...and maybe get a discount?
Say you and like 5 other local members on this forum know for a fact they want a Si, I wonder what would happen if you all walked into a dealership together and bought them all right there. Has anyone done it? That salesman would make mad comission, I bet you would be able to get the price down a tad bit... interesting idea? or just stupid? ![]()

Exactly, what if you call ahead, make sure all the cars wanted are in stock, set up the date, and everything. I'm betting people could nail these cars with some pretty damn good deals, especially 5 people at a time.

A few people on this forum have said that they went into buy their Si with their parents and their parents got a car, too. They said they got a decent discount.
You don't get a lot of one since there's only so much money they can take off. It'd be an interesting idea to try, but I think it would work better if the people going in were related or one was cosigning for another, etc. |

You might not get an AMAZING deal, but you definitely wouldn't have to worry about haggling, I would assume. It's an interesting idea that wouldn't be too hard to try IMO. Only thing is most people come on this forum after they got their car, not before.

It'd be better if you could organize you and your g/f, wife, brother, sister, mother or father to come along with you to the dealer to go car shopping together than just you and random person X. With a family or close relations, one can be helping to finance another, post as a cosigner, etc. With some random friends, it's pretty much just 2-3 people in a row buying the same car. I don't think you'd get as much of a discount as a family could. |

I've done the 'husband and wife' (Honda) deal, as well as a 'Friend and I deal' (Infiniti) and both worked out better than a single sale alone would have, but not by an astronomical amount in either case.
There does come a point of diminishing returns where the discount just can't go much lower, not to mention the logistics of arranging it all in a timely manner for all parties.

Sounds like a good plan. Possibly a few $$$ above invoice deals or at invoice. There are hidden $ out there that the dealer makes. Just because you buy a car at invoice of below invoice doesn't mean the dealer is not making any money. There are incentives from Honda that if the dealer sells so many cars, they get this much more $. So a volume dealership can always almost get you the best price due to this incentive.

I thought this was the whole idea behind going to the fleet manager instead of the sales guys. Usually they give better deals and try to get a nice volume of people as opposed to trying to make a killing off of a few cars. Still a good idea but I think it would be hard to coordinate with 2 people let alone 3-5 +
