Audi A1 Metroproject Concept Revealed...Audi Goes After the MINI Cooper

(Please delete if repost)

Courtesy of our friends at:
The A1 is Audi's answer to the popular MINI Cooper, but with a more masculine design. The car is powered by a 1.4L TFSI engine that puts out 150 horsepower and is mated to an S-tronic dual-clutch transmission. There is also a 41 horsepower electric motor in the rear of the car that can deliver more power when it is needed through the rear axle. The lithium-ion powered electric motor is also capable of moving the car on its own, up to 100km. The batteries also can be recharged at any electrical outlet.

hm...supplementary 41 hp electric motor and a awkwardly large remote start/electronic key/useless mp3 player all in one?
i like the design of the car but i think they should have spend the money from that crappy remote and put it into the engine to squeeze out a few more hp rather than adding a second motor.

I LIKE that... and I'd buy one if it had at least 180 or 200 HP. 140 is hardly a step up for me, even if the car is lighter.

Where's Audi's answer for the Mini Cooper S?

naw... i still dont like it. if the concept looks like crap, the production
model will usually look even crappier.

Expect a production version of the A1 to arrive sometime in 2009, with multiple engine options and in two, three, and five-door configurations. A convertible edition and S1 performance variant, possibly with the automaker's quattro, are almost certainly assured as well.
I'll wait for the S1.
