I also posted this on CRSX..
I know this may seem crazy, but do you think 10 guys can lift an engine down a 4-step staircase, and back up again? I'm asking, because I'm in automotive right now, and i'd love to eventually start a build all on my own, possibly of a G2 Teg or CRX, but I have no garage, and I thought the basement in our apartment building was a perfect place to do the engine and various components. The staircase is short, only 4 steps. I'd use a cherry picker to take it out of the car of course, and a stand to hold it, but the staircase is definitely in my way. According to a thread on HondaTech, an H22 would be around 350-500 lbs depending on what's still attached. 500 / 10 guys = 50 lbs each? I know it isn't as simple and balanced as that...but come on. Surely 10 guys can do it ? |

well ill tell you this i helped a friend replace an engine in his MR2..1ZZ, and it was really really Fing hard for the two of us to even hold the engine, i dont know how 10 people will.
and all we did is take it down from the ground and up to a hydroulic platform like this, platform lowered all the way obviously: (on an MR2 you actually jack up the car and then put the engine in from underneath) yes it was only two of us, but a major problem was where to hold the engine. |

You'll be lucky to get 3 maybe 4 people on it if you are going down stairs. However, me and three other guys carried a chevy 350 crate motor from a pickup truck into a garage and held it up while a 5th guy bolted it to an engine stand. We didn't have to go down stairs or lift it off the ground or anything, but that engine probably weighed more than the engine you are talking about.
If you strap it to a palet you can just carry it that way. Or maybe take some time to bolt some accessory bracket in various places to use as handles or something. Just make sure to drain any fluids and take off any accessories. I think you could do it. |
