How does the oil life monitor work......

......does it actually measure the oils' viscosity or is it just a timer. I got 3300 miles on the odometer and the oil life is @50%, just doesnt seem right.

Oil Life Monitor

I had my first oil changed at 3400 miles and it was at 50% also.
I usually change my oil on my cars every 3300 miles or so, but the Honda service advisor said with this car it should be changed every 5000 miles or by 15% on the monitor.

quick question, not only because im paranoid about the oil life light coming on..

how do you reset the oil life?

i just changed my oil at 20%

and even when the oil was changed. it still says oil life 20%

now its been almost 4 days now and now it's down to 15% ?

shouldn't it be back to 100%

It's really just a timer.

from what my buddy told me, the ECU monitors your driving habits and then it calculates the viscosity of your oil.

The vehicle measures under what conditions you're driving it in, how hard you're driving it, etc. and gives you that percentage.

You can reset it to 100% by having the car on, pressing and holding the select/reset button for about 10 seconds, let the oil life flash, let go of button, then press and hold it again for about 10 seconds.
