The new king of Supercars has emerged. The Zr-1 corvette is now confirmed by GM!!
http://blogs.motortrend.com/6215473/...zr1/index.html
Chevrolet's 650-horsepower Corvette, developed under the codename "Blue Devil," will be called ZR1. That badge will appear on the January 2008 Detroit show car and on the production version set to go on sale later next year as a 2009 model. GM has been developing this car for several years, using a supercharged version of the new 6.2-liter small-block V-8 used in the 2008 Corvette (pictured). GM also considered such names as Z07 and Super Sport for the ultra-low-volume car. Price will be much higher than the 505-horsepower Z06, and Chevy will continue production of that car when the ZR1 launches. The z06 now has to move over for the baddest vette ever. Ferrari, pagani, porsche and Lambo its time to really shit some bricks corvette is now all over the supercar league! |

Hopefully it doesn't look like this:
![]() The cladding looks purposeful, but not beautiful. Unlike a supercar, where it almost seems that the fashion is taken in equal consideration to the function -- a la the aforementioned GT and/or Porsche. The Ford GT is an american car based of what Ford developed primarily in Britain to compete in Le Mans. It also has that "supercar"-like shape. The 'Vette has an aggressive sports-car shape. I think that's the difference. Still, cool idea on Chevy's part to capitalize on the "cheap supercar" market with a good car with awesome heritage like the 'Vette! My views were shared somewhere else on the forum that I wouldn't drive a 'Vette, but let's see if this changes my mind.

Ah, good. I was looking at that, as a thumbnail. Though I couldn't view it for some reason. Let's hope so!
Good aggressive look compared to the mule...though that lone venturi tunnel in the back looks out of place on the harsh grilles and lines on the rest of the car.

its nice, but I agree with some of the previous comments. Because its not "exotic" I don't think it will be in as high of a demand as say Ferrari, Porche, or Lambo. I do have to say that I like the new styling and you can't argue with those power numbers.

It may not get "Exotic" status but power wise for the estimated cost of the ZR-1 compaired to a Ferrari or Lambo you'll be saving $200,000. Wanna see the track results. |

I'll take the Vette and 60k+ savings myself. This ZR1 is going to be a m'f'in beast.

unless your aiming for a higher end ferrari/lambo(which would probably blow the ZR1 out of the water) you wont save 200k...more like 100k. and you also will have the chevrolet...it will probably always be looked down upon by the european supercars. i would much rather have the prestige of a ferrari/lambo. half of the people that you pass by on the road wont know the difference between the zr1 and the regular vette...but they will defianlty notice a ferrari. for example, remember the VW phaeton? supposed to be equal to the A8 and competition for the BMW 7 series...no one carewd because of the name. who wants a VW when they can have a audi or BMW....
