Pics of License Plates - not showing numbers?!?

This may be a stupid question, but why when everyone takes pics of their ride, do they obscure the plate numbers? Inquiring minds want to know...

i think u could have the plates ran and find where the car is located. so u could steal it if you really wanted to. i say go-ahead and post the plate #, they would steal it anyways if they were that determined

if you have the sources, you can also get basically any info about a person from their plates.
