Exclamation synthetic or regular oil

Hi guys i recently bought a 2k6 civic si and im due for my first oil change. I was wondering if anyone can help me on wether i should switch to synthetic oil or just go with the regural oil. I drive the car pretty hard most of the time, and i read somewhere that synthetic oil would be better cause it has better viscosity or something like that. Also if anyone can direct me to what synthetic or regural oil i should buy like the brand name and the thickness.

I tried looking for this on other forums too but i found that half the people think that regural oil is fine and half think that our cars need synthetic oil cause the Si is more of a perfomance car.

You are going to find that opinion in just about any car forum you visit. Rabid enthusiasts on both sides. Many dino users complain about the added cost not being worth the potential benefits. For me the added cost is not an issue, so sythetic it is. I was using Royal Purple for a long time (great deal on a group buy a while back), but I have been using Mobil 1 of late.

How about this:

If you change your oil religiously every 2500-3500k miles then go for regular oil (your oil shouldn't be contaminated/broken down and the oil changes will be cheaper).
If you change your oil every ~5000k miles or more then go for synthetic oil (the synthetic oil will be in better condition than regular oil and the additional cost will ensure you engine is still protected).
BTW- changing your oil filter at every other oil change is like taking a bath without changing your underwear!

Hey celcius , do a search on this . Theres alot of info on this subject already.
No matter where you go , half say synthetic , half dino .
It pretty much gets down to how anal you are about your oil .
Changing it every 3000 to 5000 miles with a top name Dino or Synthetic
should do just fine .

^+1.

For that reason alone, I only use synthetic on my bike, and my Si. Plus what's an extra $5-10 once in a while for peace of mind?

Your going to get the split vote and the spelling morons everywhere you go.

Ive ran M1 oil and filters for years in most of my cars and trucks. My current Ranger is the only truck Ive ever had that didnt like it. It seems to burn the M1 and make more noise.

Our current Accord and Civic love the stuff. I do 10k mile oil changes. The Civic dosent use any that I can see on the dip stick. The Accord with its K20 seems to use about half a quart between oil changes. That seems on par or maybe even a bit better than ave. for that series of engine.

Last oil change I put M1 0w-20in the Accord. At 7k miles it had only used a cup or so. The oil change I did on my r18 Civic I used 5w-20. Will move the Civic over to 0w-20 next oil change.

I also do a tranny fluid change every 3rd oil change.

On the Accord I flushed it with M1 ATF and changed the filter. Next oil change it will need its 3 qt. dump and fill and a filter change.

The Civic I changed out the MT tranny oil first oil change. Refilled with Honda MT. Next oil change will be its third. At that time I will change it over to M1 5w-30 or 5w-20.

Just remember the maint. minder is there to help. If your going to go dine oil. Dont push it much past 5k miles if your driving hard and not over 7.5k if your really racking up hwy miles. If you go syn. Then 7.5k hard miles arent a problem with 10k or a bit better with alot of hwy miles. Some push there syn. oils out to 15k miles or farther. I wont push them out that far myself.
