New body Toyota Corolla will come as 2009
I am looking to buy a car in a month or 2, need to save on gas because have a 99 Maxima, love it but drinks lots of gas and drive 100 miles daily.
So is either the 2008 Civic EX L sedan with leather or maybe the new body Toyota Corolla depending how nice it is. Everybody said was coming as 2008; went to dealer yesterday and saw many 2008 exactly the same as 2007 with old body; asked few salesman and didn't know anything as usual, I asked manager and he called someone then told me the new body was pospone, will be 2009 and coming out either January or March 2008. That means honda will kill them again on sales on new 2008s when they were afraid of competition with new Corolla. So I will forget Corolla. What do you guys think? Why the delay when tons of buyer want it to buy the new body? |

To my understanding, Corolla had a new exterior, but once Toyota saw what Honda did to the civic, they figured their new corolla had no chance, so they send it back for further development. I have seen the "new" exterior of the corolla somewhere, but can't find it now. Only can tell you it was not even half as "futuristic" as the Civics. I have yet to see the new one for 2009 if that's when the newer corolla comes out. I think the current corolla still rated as sub-compact, while the civic is now a compact. Not 100% sure though.

I've seen the 09 Corolla. Looks like a mini-lexus IS but a little bit bland. Interior is pretty nice.

I would go with the Civic. The 09 Corolla, from those pics, still doesn't look very impressive. I like the front, but the rear is a disappointment, and the interior looks cheaply crafted, like a Scion... plus, you'll be able to get your new car a lot sooner. Although the 08 Civic's wont be on dealer lots until late September - early October.

...and it is just as ugly as the same 8 year old body style they have been using!

It looks like a mini Camry with a little touch of Lexus, nothing new or impresive.
They only thing they can do to compete against the Civic is if the get a better fuel economy and price them lower than Civics as usually are anyway, other than that Civic design is way nicer on exterior and interior. Maybe the sport edition with body kit and spoiler may be nicer. It is almost for sure Civics will outsell Corollas for few years to come. Hopefully new body design Civics come with xenon lights, led tail lights, side mirrors with signal lights and few other things. |
