I used to read Super Street until it became Rice Boy Monthly and I used to read Sport Compact Car until the only cars in there were $100,000+ cars. I used to have a years subscription to Honda Tuning until I only got 3 issues, and no more for the year. When I called them to ask "WTF??" I was told its not their problem, that I need to take it up with the Post Office. Now all I do is thumb through the rags when I'm at the store, but if your not drifting, not rolling in an Evo, or not turboed then there is really no point.

I read pretty much all the car mags I can find at the local B&N, but I only subscribe to Modified Magazine. All the tuner mags have special features and different hooked up rides, but I really enjoy the monthly articles that you find in Modified. They cover many aspects of the tuner scene as a whole, including latest trends, motorsports, shows and the such, in a more complete fashion. All the articles are mainly written by people that are actually in that particular field in contrast to most magazines whose articles are written by their staff. Its a fresh take on it.
Super Street is a good mag, but its lost some of its thunder in the last couple of years. Super Street is still the biggest tuner mag and they have access to a lot of exclusive JDM features with many of the famous shops from Japan. But this is something that most other tuner magazines have caught up with. Their annual Buyer's Guide issue is still the best. No one else comes close to that. The OEM Mags, like Car and Driver, I dont read that much any more. I usually check their websites instead. They normally have access to the most important articles and features that they publish on their magazines, which is updated more often then the tuner sites. My favorite OEM Mag website currently is Edmonds.com Inside Line. They update everyday during the week and carry many features, including cars that we dont get here. They did a special on the FD2 Type R soon after it's release. That's my take on it.

Subscribed to HondaTuning
and will buy the following off the newstands if I like a particular article: Modified Super Street Import Tuning Turbo Sport Compact PS There isn't enough coverage of the Si or the 8thgens!! I don't buy mags that don't reflect my taste... Even HondaTuning doesn't put many 8thgens in there yet... |
