Speed... choices?
I've been so back and forth on this.... I want speed. It wont be immediate, so I've got time to weigh the options.
Choices- SI swap in my EX (in a few years, right now I definitely need gas mileage for school. the only hold up is my power needs combined with FWD. I want about 400-450whp and I want it to hook up and be really streetable) Attempt an S2000 swap in my EX (definitely something I would enjoy if it worked, but I am not too fond of cutting this car) Buy an S2000 (not really an option, I need more room than an S2000 has to offer) Trade for a domestic for that price range, or a 240sx/300zx/STi/EVO/etc |

Wouldn't 450 bhp for a track car be signing a death warrant if you have FWD? Unless it's a drag car....
...anyway, I agree with megahurts. Buy a Miata or RX-7 or (personal favorite) Subaru 2.5 RS Coupe and tart that up for some HP to take to the track? |

Get a RWD for that kind of power.
Stay away from honda or most foreign car's and get you something with some balls (Torque) like... Here comes the flames... A Mustang. Cheap, HUGE aftermarket support, Big displacement= more gains with basic bolt-ons. |

Sorry to chime in, but because of my age, I have to. This reminds me of guys in the 60's who wrote to Hot Rod magazine asking about swapping in a Chrysler Hemi into an MG or a 428 Cobra Jet into a Pinto. From the tone of the OP, it sounds much the same.
Realistically, you can't make a race horse out of an old nag. I would keep your present car and do some sound N/A mods to it. While it won't be 400 hp, you will enjoy the added performance plus the fuel economy you need. Get your education in first, then go for your toys. In 5 years, your heart will be set on another car and the Honda will be a fading memory. It makes much more sense to buy a car with an already good performance platform rather than build an entire car from the ground up. BTW, in 1970, I bought a brand new 350 Camaro. Not what I wanted, but all that I could afford. Being a horsepower junkie, I became delusional and had these grand plans to swap in a 454 motor, change the trans from an automatic to a 4 speed and change other parts as well. It would have been much simpler to have bought a Z/28 or an SS 396 Camaro as a starting platform. Later, I got smart and bought a 427 Corvette. It was the perfect platform to mod. |

If you want to stay import and get that type of power you really probably need to go with a subie or an evo
AWD should be pretty good at getting the power down, and those cars are capable of 400hp or more, plus you can use a de-tuned setup for when you don't want the power. Why do you want all this power? If it is for a track wait until you can afford a second car, using your daily driver on the track is a horrible idea |

Alright... so I'll keep my Civic as my DD and buy a mustang or something in a few years.
I still want it to be very peppy! I wanna confuse some SI's as I come close/beat them. Can this be done NA? or anywhere close? Is anyone even considering cam/heads/etc for the R18? Also... If I were looking into exhaust/intake what would be suggested for a low-key sound like stock? I want my car to be as sleeper as possible! |

NO2 is probably your best bet if you want to keep up with an Si.
Any intake or exhaust is going to alter the sound characteristics. None will sound stock. Best, although debated (by 3 people), is the Injen CAI. Which will alter the sound of the car. Try adding pullies to the Civic. Gives it a nice boost in performance without any sound changes whatsoever. But as far as that, its all we have available till aftermarket expands for us R18'ers. Im drunk and sleepy... Im out. |
