and yes i agree with you that the sti and evo are aiming torwards different directions. the hatch design of the sti is a dead giveaway that they are going for rally performance. but most car reviewers and car buyers only care about how they perform on the street or road courses, which automatically makes everyone think the sti is lacking. people tend to forget that there are different types of performance standards, not just how one car does at the track. In FIA Group N (which is really what the Evo and STi were made for), or PWRC, Mitsu won the championship from 1995-2001. So could you please tell me what you are referring to when you said Quote:

if you're going to school you might want to take notes: "I never heard of mitsubishi winning" versus "Mitsubishi never won" are not the same It should have been a dead giveaway once I said Quote:

I have always been a fan of both the WRX and especially the STi. I seriously considered selling my G35 to get an STi. My best friend has a black '06 WRX that is a really nice car. I love the styling and overall performance. The price was right too.
With that said, the new WRX just does not have the panache of the previous iteration. It is bigger, has an ugly grille and taillights, and seems too gentrified to be a rough and ready rally type street car. I am also taken back by the rather high window sticker prices. It seems that supersizing has taken hold of the car industry. Cars just keep getting bigger, longer and heavier. They need ever powerful engines to keep pace with the weight and size increases. I have watched my beloved Infiniti going that way, especially with the porky G37. I for one loved the rawness and heavy performance orientation of both the Evo VIII and the STi as well as the WRX. Now, these cars are beginning to go stratospheric in price while not necessarily getting better looking. I'll pass on the WRX.

I will give credit to engineers that they are able to eke out more mpg and performance out of heavier cars. I guess I am eclectic enough to really consider a Lotus Exige as my dream car. I want something very small, very light, very nimble and something that could straighten out any twisty road. I have always hated big, heavy cars, even back in the muscle car days. The smallest car you could get in the late 60's with good performance was a Camaro. I could never have imagined myself driving a Chevelle, Torino, Road Runner or Dodge Charger. Too big and heavy. Even back then, my ideal car was an AC Cobra. Light and fast.

As far as OTS cars go, I'm starting to go your way. The 911 GT3 is losing ground to an Exige S. Boooooooooo the Camaro, I'll take a Mustang thank you very much. GT40 over an AC Cobra for me please. ![]()

well it really depends on how it was developed and what plastic was used, BMW E36's have plastic manifolds and I have a dude running boost on it right now at like 10 or more psi, with a full standalone EMS.

The new WRX is 100lbs lighter then last year, its also got more power down low, and peaks sooner. Drivabilty has gone up, and turbolag has gone down.
The looks are bland, and very hyundai elantra like, and the interior is the worse then most compact economy cars. Its 100% plastic everything. I cannot believe how cheap the interior is. Honestly, i would take the 06-07 wrx over the new one anyday. BUT if i was to buy it, i might take the NEW one as its 4 or 5 thousand dollars cheaper then the last gen wrx was. |
