rattle buster

http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/04/r...attled-nerves/

anybody try this? It seems much easier (and safer) than trying to identify rattles on the road

it uses the stereo to try and replicate the vibrations of your car in motion, which causes the rattle

I still don't get it...

Is it trying to "trick" the rattles into thinking the car is moving...tricky, tricky little bastards, hey?

But seriously, that doesn't make sense to me...lol

Thats basically what it is doing. The constant rattles are caused by the vibrations of the car, and this CD trys to replicate these, therby making the rattles appear when parked with the CD running. Its a lot easier to identify them then.

Now, for rattles that only occur when going over big bumps this won't work (unless you have a really good sound system)

It would be really hard to get a good enough, consistant, recording that would be able to cause the rattles

Its using different frequencies, some items resonate on a specific note, Musicians know that when you play a note and another instrument is tuned the same it resonates. Thats the same principle. But some rattles are due to the vibration and movement not just same frequency noise

I've been doing some googling, and some people say it works, if you have a really annoying rattle its worth a try.

I have audio software that helped me apply dampening in my car. It basically allows me to isolate different frequencies long enough for me to isolate the source of the offending vibration. This CD strives to do the same. If you were to run a sine sweep in your car, you would be shocked to here all the loose bits and pieces that rattle all the time. Most of us aren't aware of these sounds because the engine noise, suspension, etc. mask them.
You can make your own CD by recording test tones from 15Hz-125Hz.
