I have an ex mt sedan and the salesman told me i can go do 190kph right away if i wanted to... i obviously didnt take his word for it and let the engine break in for about a month or so(2000km)... dont take the engine to high up in the revs and don't speed to much and you'll be fine...

But everyone have their own ways of breaking in a motor. Some go by the manual. Some believe that driving your car during break in would be better. Just do what you want. I broke my car in kinda hard. And my SI is doing good. |

Broke mine in according to the manual. As soon as I was at 599.9 I waited about 10 seconds until I ripped the engine, so I was at 6k at 600 miles.
![]() It's all up to you in the end, I just followed the manual because I don't drive all that hard anyway... |

Funny, first thing came to mind on the title, like a break,,,,, in time, like a paradox or something off star trek LOL, dont ask..............
Hmm, lets see how do we break in a car: 1. Drive it nice, so everything wears properly 2. Beat the sh!t out of it so the cylinder rings seat right for better compression 3. It doesnt' matter how you do it 4. Let it idle through 5 tanks of gas then your good to go (worked for my RC Nitro Buggy )Either way the only thing that can be agreed on is make sure the car is fully warmed up before you drive it when its very new. (less than 100 miles or so) |

Since I'm bored I'll just post how I broke my motor in
0-100 miles. I drove my SI normally not hitting vtec (Nothing above 5500rpm) 100-200 miles. Normal driving with some WOT, Nothing over 6000 200-300 miles. Normal driving with some WOT, nothing over 7000 300+ Drove the car how I wanted it. ex. Hit redline. |

.Never really did the "no vtec for 600 miles" break in i'v seen alot on here. I dunno how you people could stand doing that lol. |

Supposibly the "Break in" in usually completed after 20 miles or so. I hit vtech on the way home from the dealership after about 60 miles. I don't have any problems with going easy on a car but why stay out of the second lobe until 600 miles, I couldn't imagine that being any better for the car then being in the second lobe on occasion. I look at it like this..
I walk a mile a day for a week (break in period) After that week I go run sprints, am I going to be ready for it? ![]() What if I had run a sprint after every day the previous week, wouldn't I be more prepared for it then had I not run any at all? ![]() |

I did my 07 LX M/T like this, First week and a half I didn't go above 4,000 RPMS then I would once or twice a week go to WOT and now 3 weeks later I am at 1,000 miles I drive how I normally do. But everyone will tell you something different, as you prob noticed.

Funny, brake pads need to be bedded in properly and driven gently initially. Likewise, when you put a new camshaft in, there is a break in procedure. I don't understand how people feel they can ignore the factory break in procedure of 600 miles for the motor and 200 miles for the brakes. Common sense dictates that like a new pair of shoes, a new car should gradually be brought up to speed.
I have had my new Si Sedan for all of one week and have put approximately250 gently driven miles on it. I will continue to do so as per the manual. I just can't understand the rationale behind beating on a new car and abusing it right away. |
