Saw a $5k markup Sunday
I like to look at the new car lots on Sundays so I drove to a couple of places this past weekend. Dropped in a Honda dealer and noticed a black SI. From a distance I saw an extra paper glued next to the official Honda sticker. "Fair market adjustment - $5,000".
The dealer I bought from in December sold me mine at MSRP. I'd never pay extra. They're going to make a whole bunch of these cars so the prices will definitely fall back into line soon. |

Hey,do us a favor and go back there with a digi cam and take a picture of the sticker and make sure you get all the info included into it and the name of the dealer and where they're located would you?
I saw an Evo at a local dealership when they first came out that some slackass pasted the same sticker that read "area market adjustment". I had a chipper salesman come out and ask me if there was anything he could do for me today and if I liked the car. I told him, nope, not anymore. I liked the car till the way I saw how you conduct business here with your recockulous "area market adjustment". I'm sure somebody would try to take advantage of me even moreso if I were to actually buy this car with this additional price on it. Good f^ckin luck selling it. Jumped in my buddies twin turbo RX-7 and left. I can feel a good strong batch of hate-mail coming on.

Fair market adjustment? We're already getting screwed on fair market adjustments on gas. Now they're trying to d*ck people over with cars? WTF?!
Ha! My post was instantly edited. I find that humorous.

mark-up for one of the dealers around my area had a EX Coupe marked up 3,000. Not as bad, as 5,000, but still. Brought the price to around 23,000.

Shit thats a good price compared to Spirit Honda in Cali where they had a White SI selling for $30,000! I was like WTF? I told the sales guy that they were crazy with that mark up cause you can get an EVO for that price, or a luxuary vehicle like an Acura TSX! I cant believe dealers will do shit like that or even worst the stupid people that would actually buy a civic for that price!

Hey - Was this Bale? You're in Arkansas right (I think I remember a post from you somewhere saying that)? I actually test drove that car (they had a Hab red one in the showroom). I negotiated down to $500 over MSRP, but still walked because I refuse to pay over sticker (especially since I want one that is white). I told the salesmen I would think about it but he made some remark to the effect of I wouldn't get that deal if I left then. So - I told him I wouldn't be back in that case and put down a deposit on a white Si at another dealership that will arrive in a month. The guy from the first dealership has been calling me every day begging me to come back in. He finally said they would go down to MSRP, but I'd rather wait a month than buy it there. PS - Dale, where did you buy your car? |

Yes it was at Bale. I bought mine at Orr in Hot Springs. I visited them (Orr) this week and mentioned the Bale sighting. I think it's the policy at Orr that they don't do markups. I know I didn't pay any markup on mine. None in stock there right now.

It doesn't matter if the dealers mark up a car. What matters is if you are stupid or desperate enough to BUY the car. There are Thousands of cars out there for the picking. Tell them to F*ck themselves and move on. Honestly, anyone desperate enough to pay that much for a civic deserves to get reamed.

The markup itself doesn't piss me off that much (it is Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price afterall), but I have absolutely no doubt that a dealer who would charge markup in the first place would lie about the upcoming availablity/production schedule/etc to make the sale at that price.
