Hooking amp system up to stock stereo

Has anyone here hooked up their Civic stock stereo up to an amplifier system? I am probably going to do that with my Si. I did it with my last car, and it was really not too bad because the wiring harness went all the way to the trunk, the stock head unit controller was in the trunk. I ran the low-level? converters right off there and then ran my RCA's back up to an EQ and then had a non-DIN dvd player also hooked into the EQ and that ran back to the Amp, so I could switch between the stock stereo and my dvd/cd player.

I haven't taken a hard look at the schematics for the stock head unit for an EX/Si, but I am wondering if it is going to be a pain in the ass.

How hard has it been for those who have put amps into their civics to get the power through teh firewall? Are the stock speaker wires sufficient to keep in, or should I replace the wiring? I kept the wiring in my last car for the door/rear speakers and it worked great. Not to mention it is way easier to do that.

What size is the rear deck middle speaker? Is that the sub?

Does the civic have any trunk rattle when you put a sub box into the trunk?

Does anyone know a good site with instructions on how to make custom fiberglass molded trunk boxes/amp installations?

Thanks guys!

yeah that's the sub... other than that. I don't know anything about the sound system.
