Possibly Parting An Ex

I'm hoping to get my Civic in the next month or so... stupid back-order... and I'm seriously leaning towards an Lx. The thing is, I want a sunroof. I don't care about having stereo controls on my wheel, I'm probably replacing the headunit. I don't care about a factory subwoofer because I can do my own I.C.E. and that would probably involve replacing all the speakers anyways. I don't care about alloy wheels because I'd eventually be getting new shoes.

So my question is this... if I got an Ex, do you guys think I could easily part out the stuff I don't want/need without taking a massive loss?

Are you stealing an EX or actually wanting to buy one then sell all the parts you don't want. :)

The alloys go for bout 600+ pending on the buyer on ebay. There are people with DX's that would want your stock stereo n sub, no idea how much that goes for though. But other than that I haven't seen anyone selling parts from their EX. I just wish they gave the LX that nifty trunk popper (tho I never use it), but its the principle of the matter!

Just curious, but if you plan on parting it, why didn't you just buy a DX? It would be cheaper and you could start from the ground up.

First of all, I'm biased because I have a LX and I was in the same situation as you were. I really wanted a sunroof, but I didn't really care for other option although I'd appericiate if had them. If sunroof is only thing that you REALLY want then it would be like spending about $1000 for the sunroof. LX is like $2000 less than EX without sunroof, alloy wheels, better sound system w/ steering wheel control, keyless trunk pop, rear disk brake + some minor options.

What you can really sell out of those options... Hmm... the rims, sound system, but I think that's about it... If you can let go of the sunroof, which I did and suggest you to save $2000 and put that money for your planned mod as you stated. When you get better option/trim from a vehicle, it's really up to you. Are you willing to spend xxx amount of money for this feature that you want? Or can you live without it for xxx less? It's your pick.

You don't need the sunroof, like joonoo said, pump the xtra 2k into mods

Sunroof is a nice look but if it's looks your goin for you can make your car look KILLER for $2000, or if your a speed guy. $2000 is alot of horsepower :)

your call but I went with the DX-G, no roof, gonna want custom rims and sound system anyways.. more custom the better.

my $.02

Wow I totally forgot about this thread. I actually ordered my Ex last Saturday.

My thing is this, I'm not really intending on modding the car. If I do, they will be minimal mods at most. I'm going to use this as a daily driver for however many years, so there's no point in doing anything extreme. Suspension will roughen up the ride (which I'd be fine with if I was doing anything beyond normal driving).

Intake/Exhaust/Etc... I may do that stuff later, but I don't really see a point right now. No offense, but the whole coffee-can exhaust thing looks stupid to me... especially when it makes the car sound like a weed-whacker getting raped by a swarm of angry bees. If that's the only style an exhaust comes in, then I'd rather not do it. I may do an intake later, but I don't intend to now. Don't even get me started on the other stuff... I could post one hell of a response about all the other mods and how useless they may be. The only mod I foresee myself doing is a xenon upgrade and installing some foglights (xenon or halogen). I was f'ing pissed when the dealer told me xenon's weren't even offered and actually debated the logic of paying $400+ for some damned foglights that I could easily install myself.

I'm not saying modding a car is pointless, just that doing excessive mods to a daily driver eventually defeats the purpose of the car. I may do some things in the future. But for now, I just want the car to come in.

As for parting it out... meh. I think I'll leave it as is. I may get some wheels later. If I do that, I guarantee that my stocks are becoming winter tires. The other stuff... I'll live with it. Someone else posted a comment in another thread about being in a similar position of mine and deciding to just go with an Ex on the "I'm already spending X, so why not treat myself a bit?" That's pretty much my position now.
